Sprucing It Up

October 10, 2012

Since the boy moved in, I have been trying to find ways to spruce up our place. From covering a bulletin board with fabric, to laying fun paper in drawers and cabine

ts, I have been enjoying getting organized while displaying things in a cute way!

Among the football helmets, framed jersey, and copious amounts of glasses I inherited (he has everything from whiskey to wine glasses), together we have quite the collection of running medals. I have looked around for cute ways to display them. I initially had my half marathon medal in a shadowbox but wanted to group them all together. After scouring pinterest, I put my spin on a darling medal holder made with clothes pins.

IMG_1809

This idea was not only inexpensive, but functional. I had clothes pins on hand from other crafts and all I needed to purchase was paint and a wood backing. Easy peasy!

IMG_1810

I picked up the piece of wood up at Michaels with a coupon along with spray and wood paint for the pins. Swanky boyfriend sanded and sprayed the wood backing and I painted the pins. We attached them with gorilla glue but I think a less drippy type of glue (modge podge maybe?) may work better since it leaked out the sides a bit.

Isn’t it too fun!

I was also thinking it might be cute to include pictures of the day along with the medals.

In Other Swanky Scoop:

Soup is the name of the game in this household. Since our work hours vary so much between his schedule and mine, soup just works best. It heats up well, and you can make a ton of it!

I have decided that Rotel is seriously the best! It adds a little something something to pretty much any dish!

Spicy Chicken Soup (serves 10 -12)

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 1 red pepper, diced
  • 3 chicken breasts
  • 1 can Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies
  • 1 cup kidney beans
  • 1 can corn, rinsed
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, diced
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 32 ounce container vegetable or chicken broth

Directions:

(Get ready for how easy this is) Combine onion, peppers,

chicken breasts, Rotel,

IMG_1798IMG_1800

kidney beans, corn,

IMG_1801IMG_1802

vegetable broth and cumin in crock pot.

IMG_1803IMG_1805

Stir and let soup cook in crock pot for about 7 hours on medium heat or until chicken is cooked through. Shred chicken, top with soup, cheese and serve!

IMG_1833

The

flavors were just amazing! The Rotel added just enough kick.

IMG_1843

This is by far one of the best soups I’ve made recently. YUM!

I promise, I will try to share something else besides soup. I just can’t help myself. Winking smile

The work week is going by pretty fast so far. Now that I have been at my new job for a few weeks, I am feeling a lot more comfortable. I really like it! I know I have been a bit more MIA on the blogging end, but I am still getting adjusted. I promise I try to read as many blogs a day as I can.

Hope your week is going by fast!

Oh great idea. I actually won a medal hanger, but I still have all of ours on a book shelf. Not exactly the best display ;-)

Thanks Nikki!
There are so many ways you can change it up too! I just didn’t want it to look too busy with all the different colored medals, but down the road i make add something like printed scrapbook paper to cover the pins. :)

I love the idea of putting a picture with the medal – so cool! I must have missed the post where swanky boyfriend moved in!!! Congrats! :D

And I am a soup whore – I pinned one on pinterest for a cheddar ale soup – I need to figure out how to make it more figure friendly – you know how I feel about cheese though!

I LOVE that medal hanger! I got a “gift” from my dad this past Christmas that was a little note saying he’d make me a shelf with hooks to hang my medals, but he needed my input on colors, etc. We still haven’t gotten around to making it :-)

Before I moved I had some of my race medals hanging up on the corner of this giant framed soccer picture and jersey that our coaches gave us upon graduating. Now they are in a box somewhere as I still haven’t fully unpacked. I think I have lost a few a long the way and am pretty sure I left my marathon medal from this weekend in the hotel room….ooops. I’m not very organized when it comes to things besides work. Clearly I need some of your domestic diva skills in my life!
