End of a Workout

October 1, 2012

Hi!  The weekends fly by so fast, don’t they?

Saturday I finished up my groupon for my Sin City Bootcamp class.  The end was bittersweet.  I really enjoyed the class and am thinking about signing up for a membership.  It is actually not too pricey as compared to most bootcamps.

Bootcamp class is always challenging and never gets boring.  Saturday’s workout was one tough one.  Heavy weights (50 pounds) of two clean and press and three cleans at a time.  We ran in between each set for a total of  4 sets.  My arms were burning!!!  Even though it wasn’t a lot of reps, that heavy weight did it for me!  I am sore today!

After bootcamp, I met a couple friends for coffee.  I took the chance to refuel with one of Coffee Bean’s amazing oatmeals.  This flavor included peanut butter chips, banana slices, honey, and walnuts.  That bit of sweet made the oatmeal taste so decadent.

After running a couple errands, cleaning and organizing, I picked up my sister and we met my parents for dinner at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza.  My poor sister sprained her ankle in a tennis class and has a big boot on.  I told her that at least she did it doing something athletic and cool, you know.  I mean, it could have happened when you were getting out of the shower.  Happily, I was her chauffeur for the evening.

Our family loves itself some Sammy’s.  Especially their happy hour.  After a long week, I decided to splurge and get a Blue Moon.  The Vegas temps are still hot and this was super refreshing!

The apps at Sammy’s are seriously delicious too.

Garlic Cheese Bread

Roasted garlic sauce, mozzarella cheese, fresh oregano, imported Romano cheese

Mac and Cheese

With smooth Tillamook cheddar cheese sauce baked in our woodfired oven

Parmesan Crusted Artichokes

With goat cheese, served with creamy herb dressing

With all the delicious (and shall we say a  bit unhealthy) appetizers, we also thought we’d get in some greens, ya know to balance things out.  Winking smile

This balsamic grilled chicken salad has a little bit of everything.

Mixed greens, toasted walnuts, marinated chicken breast, gorgonzola, Balsamic Basil dressing

Between the car ride, pain medication and food, let’s just say we had to stop on the side of the road for her.   Once we got to my parents and my sister was feeling better, we all had a good laugh.  We shared our best “puking” stories.  I think you may recall the time I told you I puked on my lap driving home from babysitting in high school.  Not my finest moment.  Don’t you love retelling embarrassing family stories??

Sunday was the highlight of my weekend.  I slept in, hung out with the boy all day, and made these…

Recipe on my next post.  And it’s a

good one. Smile

The boy is cooking up steaks with mushrooms and onions along with homemade garlic mashed potatoes.  I can’t wait!

How was your weekend?  Have you ever broken or sprained anything?

I say this while “knocking on wood,” but I have never broken or sprained anything.  Seeing how clumsy I am, I don’t know how it hasn’t happened.

OMG, that food looks amazing! Aw, your poor sister – hope she’s feeling better!

Even being a 4 season athlete all through high school and playing field hockey in college, I’ve never broken a bone!

All that food looks so good! I want that pizza :)

I’m so lucky not to have broken anything, miss broke her pinky and it took 2 surgeries to “fix”. It’s still permanently bent.

For the record, so I don’t look like a cry baby….it is an Achilles tear. And now I know that officially I am allergic to Lortab. I just got home from work and am in so much pain. My appt w the surgeon is on Monday, that was the soonest.

That salad looks AMAZING…maybe even better than the rest which says a lot because it all looks amazing! Next time I’m in Vegas – Sammy’s! Which, should be April, by the way…we MUST meet up! As for your sister…poor thing. :( I puked on my feet once in college…outside of a bar, dressed in a grass skirt. Our sorority house cook was right there holding my hair back. Sweetest guy ever, and so, so embarrassing!!!

Yes, I will make sure we meet up this time!! :)
Yeah, she isn’t doing so great! She may need surgery.

Don’t you just love college stories. I actually puked at my first fraternity dance I went to. I was so nervous that I kept drinking. I spent most the night with my head on the dinner table. ;)

Your poor sister! Hope her recovery is fast! I broke my foot as a teenager and the bone never fused properly. I actually already arthritis in my foot…sigh. But it doesn’t seem to interfere with being active too much. I do to be careful of it during some yoga poses though.

Love your food photos…making me hungry!!

Your poor sister! I’m glad you got a funny story out of it, though, lol ;) I think the embarrassing family stories are the best, and I make a special note to remember them and pull them out whenever I can! I’ve never broken anything (knock on wood), but funnily enough, I wanted one of those cool casts that everyone could sign in elementary school!
