Milo’s and Mr. T

September 28, 2012

You know me and my love for Milo’s Cellar.  It has gotten more than it’s fair share of mentions on the blog here, here, and here.  I kind of love this place tucked away in darling Boulder City.  To change up book club this month, Milo’s is just the place we decided to go.

While the traditional drink of choice is wine (my friend chose a flight of 3 to sample),

IMG_1610

I went with a vanilla cream soda.  It was the perfect treat!

The book or should I say books for this month were the last two in the 50 shades series by E.L. James.  Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed finish off the story of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.  Again the reviews by us were mixed.  Anyone that has read both the Twilight series and these books notice similarities?  It seemed very strange how similar the stories were. Granted Christian Grey is no Edward Cullen, imo.  Winking smile

While chatting away about the books, we each ordered appetizers to share.

The hummus platter with pita bread is always a hit!  The pita that was brought out was warm and soft.

We all plowed through the bordeaux platter.

Designed for the hearty reds. Spanish Manchego, Italian Asiago, smoked gouda, English extra sharp cheddar, Stilton Blue, and fresh mozzarella. Served with crackers, Mediterranean olives, and grapes.

Behind the baked brie, this platter is my favorite.

The book club gals!!

IMG_1620

We couldn’t believe that it had been over a year since our book club has been meeting.  Although I don’t always read the book each month, I really enjoy getting together with these gals!

The waiter encouraged us to go upstairs to their patio.  Milo’s also has a bed and breakfast located above the restaurant.  Staycation anyone?

The patio area was just adorable.  So cozy and relaxing!

The highlight of the day, by far, was meeting and getting to feed Mr. T.

Not that Mr. T, silly.  Mr. T is a turtle that lives in the pond above Milo’s.  Lucky turtle I’d say.

IMG_1622

He was not shy one bit and crawled out of the water and came right to me hoping I had food.  The waiter nicely provided me with carrot sticks to feed him.

IMG_1633

He quickly grabbed the carrot out of my hand and took it back in the water with him.  Swanky boyfriend (aka: turtle enthusiast apparently) told me that that type of turtle usually eats some plants, but mostly fish so he was a bit surprised he gladly took the carrot.  Perhaps he’s a vegetarian!

Leaving there, I immediately told swanky boyfriend how much I wanted a turtle!  He was all about it.  Too bad we don’t have space for a nice pond.

All in all, this month’s book club was such a great time!  I love those ladies.

Other Swanky Scoop:

After reading Lauren’s blog mentioning a cookbook she

was loving, I knew I had to get it.  What is the fabulous cookbook you might ask…The Indian Slow Cooker by Anupy Singla.  Reason one I love it…I heart Indian food.  Reason two…I love me some good slow cooker recipes.  With the cooler temperatures upon us (slowly but surely here in Vegas), my slow cooker is making it’s way on out (out on the counter top that is).

IMG_1595

I’ll give you a reason number three just cause…it has lots of lentil recipes!

IMG_1596

For those new readers, you can learn more about lentils from the Love Your Lentils tour I went to in Canada. Part I, II, and III

IMG_1603

I am looking forward to trying more recipes in this book!

All I have to say is yay for Friday!  I don’t have too many plans which is never a bad thing.  Have a great day!

What new cookbook have you purchased that you love?  Do you like using a slow cooker/crock pot?

Kristin, it’s so awesome that you’re in a book club! I knew that, but I didn’t know you were a part of it for a whole year. really neat. I hope to join one after I graduate…when I have more time. Baked Brie is my favorite appetizer! Topped with some sort of sweet spread such as cranberries and apricot…perfection! I love lentils…slow cooker…I hope you share some of those recipes! Happy Friday!

You totally got me with the Mr. T thing, lol. I was like, “what, are there impersonators in LV?”

With all those incredible food pictures (especially the hummus, drool), I’m still thinking about the baked brie. Sooooo goood :)

I am always jealous when I hear about your book club — the books always sound great, you gals always eat, and there’s usually wine. What more could a girl want?! :) The turtle — too cute. I have a snake…do you want a snake? :)

Aww, what a cute little turtle! Never would have thought a turtle would be so fond of people that it would crawl out to eat carrots!

I think I need that cookbook too since I love Indian Food as well!! Thanks for the suggetion! :-)

Have a great weekend!

yay, her books are amazing. But wait? I think there’s good news. You won the other book, I’m pretty sure. I have to check with my office. Did they contact you? Now I’m annoyed if they didn’t.
Enjoy.

I won!!! Yay!! That is so exciting!
They hadn’t contacted me. If they did, perhaps it went into my spam folder. I can’t wait! :)

I really love your book club tradition! It’s been a goal of mine to join one for years, yet it hasn’t happened yet! Maybe I need to move to Vegas and hop into yours? I love that your meetings are so food focused! ;)

Mr. T is such a cutie! I actually collect turtles–not live ones!–and have them all over my room. My friends and family are well aware of my collection, which makes them a popular gift option. I’ve begun to wonder how many I’ll have in my collection by the time I’m 80!

Hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend! xoxo
