Lunch in Paris

August 27, 2012

Hi, friends!

I hope you had the best of weekends.  Mine was just fabulous!  It started by enjoying a date day with swanky boyfriend.  Tony recently got a new job and are work schedules seem to usually be opposite.  We were exited to both have the day off to enjoy together.

I have always wanted to go to Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Las Vegas.  So when my mom gave me a coupon she got in the mail for $30 off a meal, I knew Tony and I needed to go.

We decided that lunch would be the perfect time to go to avoid the crowds

(this restaurant always seems packed in the evening).  The lunch menu was only one page, but full of delicious looking options.

Although this Vegas heat is extreme, a big plus to eating at Mon Ami Gabi are the amazing views.  They are one of the few restaurants on the strip that offers patio seating.  They sat us right by where the air conditioning ends and the misters began. Score!

IMG_1303

Check out this view.

IMG_1330

Seriously perfect for people watching.

IMG_1314

Iced water was just perfect to keep us cool and refreshed.

IMG_1307

The server brought us out a  warm, crusty baguette to enjoy while perusing the menu.

IMG_1306

The brie called to me.  You know me and brie. Winking smile So, surprise surprise, I went with the warm brie cheese appetizer.

This brie is served with black pepper honey, hazelnuts, and croutons.

IMG_1311

I figured you need a closer look…

IMG_1312

Oh my gosh, this was fantastic.  The warm brie played perfectly with the sweetness of the honey and savory flavors of the garlic.  Tony got one bite of this and that was about all I let him have.  Sorry, I just can’t help it when I am around brie.

IMG_1313

But to be fair, the boy also got his pick of an appetizer.  He decided on the chicken liver mousse with burgundy red wine and toasted brioche.   Let’s just say that his taste buds are not half as picky as mine.  I was not a fan of this.  What I did enjoy were the olives. YUM!

IMG_1310

Waiting for our entrees to come, we got to watch the fountains at Bellagio from across the street.  This is by far one of my favorite free Vegas attractions.

IMG_1319

The grand finale!  Isn’t it just beautiful!

IMG_1322

Although I am not typically a fan of ham, Tony assured me that I wouldn’t be disappointed with the croque monsieur.

The delicious bread is layered with ham, melty gruyere cheese, and crème fraiche.

IMG_1323

The crème fraiche took this sandwich over the top!

IMG_1328

I loved their take on fries or ask they call them hand-cut frites.  Crispy and slightly salty, they were the best compliment to my sandwich.

IMG_1327

The boy enjoyed the special sandwich of the day which included sliced lamb.  See, not picky taste buds at all!  I took his word for it when he said this sandwich was super tasty.

IMG_1324

As you can see from all this food, there were many leftovers packaged up.  Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs.

IMG_1329

I am looking forward to visiting Mon Ami Gabi again, perhaps when the weather cools down.  I would love to sit and enjoy drinks and appetizers come fall.

How was your weekend?  What is your favorite Vegas restaurant or one that you would like to enjoy?

Looks like a great time, and from what I hear, lunch is better than dinner there (I think better options for the value is what I heard). I know my mom loved lunch there. I have only eaten dinner there. And of course I love the view. I have great memories of watching the fountain, driving home from UNLV or just passing it on the strip, even watching it with Ryan. So fun! My favorite Vegas restaurant is probably Hugo’s Cellar. If you have never been, you need to. You probably need to book in advance, and it is pricey, but they make your salad table side and every female gets a rose upon arrival (or at least they did). It’s down on Freemont. Amazing! I also love Bonito Michoacan for Mexican, but not sure it is still there.

I have never been to Hugo’s Cellar. I definitely will have to go there!! :)
It is funny that I have lived in Vegas all my life and there are still so many restaurants I have never tried.

How fun! I’ve never been to Vegas, but that looks like such a fun place to eat. Anywhere with bread like that!!!!

That looks like an amazingly located restaurant! What a wonderful setting – and by the sounds of it, wonderful food options too.

Looks like a great spot! I wish more cities had sidewalk cafe-type eateries.

So many restaurants in that town to choose from! My wallet would be in trouble living in a city with so many options and tempting places to try out. The last time I was in Vegas it was recently after the Cosmopolitan had opened and I ate at a place called China Poblano. It is a fusion of traditional Chinese and Mexican cuisines, not Americanized versions of the two culture’s food! I can’t remember what I ordered, but it was unlike anything I had before and I really enjoyed it. We also shared a pot of their “Cold Tea” which is a dangerous mix of green tea, beer, and tequila!

The food looks amazing! I just got back from a week long vacation. I haven’t been to Vegas in years but it looks as though I have to add it to my list again.

That is definitely a major perk of living in Vegas; all of the fabulous restaurants! I highly suggest Bouchon if you and the Swanky Bf need a fancy pants dinner/brunch :)

Glad you and swanky boyfriend had such a fun day date! I will be in Vegas this weekend with my family, and the one thing my daughter really wants to do is go to Paris Las Vegas :-) . So many great restaurants in Vegas, it’s hard to choose one favorite. Hope you have a wonderful week!

I have been to Vegas many, many times and I’ve ALWAYS wanted to eat at Mon Ami Gabi BECAUSE of the location. I mean, it doesn’t get any better! I always figured the food wouldn’t be up to par with the location, but I’m glad to be wrong! The liver mousse is very French, but not my style either. Everything else looks sooo good, though :)

It is the same for you! All these years living here and I never went!!
It is very delicious, but definitely lots of French inspired items (some of which are too out there for me. ;) )

I love leisurely lunches! It seems like my restaurant meals are almost always enjoyed at dinner, which I’d definitely like to change. Not only can you save money, but dining out during the afternoon is a fun way to break up the day. :) Your lunch at Mon Ami Gabi looks incredible—especially that brie appetizer! Melted cheese in any form is always welcome on my plate. :)

I’ve never been to Vegas (unless you count driving and flying through), but I hear there are some amazing restaurants! When I come visit, I know I’m going to be overwhelmed by the options (in a very good way!). :)

I’ve heard of this restaurant! I am so envious of the amazing dining options you have in Vegas. Vegas really is becoming more and more of a foodie mecca! I am with you though, being on the picky side. Swanky bf is definitely a bit more brave than I would be!

Oh boy, I definitely needed a close-up of that brie ;) Together with the crusty baguette, I think the meal would stop right there! I’m glad you and Tony had a great time! I’ve only ever been to Vegas once, for a fifteen hour stopover on the way from California to Colorado. We ate in a casino restaurant (don’t remember which one) and it wasn’t all that great. I see now what I missed!
