Hi, friends!
I tried a new workout this weekend and I think I may just be hooked!

Oh yes my friends, I went to a boxing class this weekend and loved it!!
Saturday, I had to work in the morning so thought I would cash in my groupon for an afternoon class at Long Life Fit and Dance. I attended the boxing circuit training class. It was a smaller class, just me and one other girl. I wasn’t sure what they had in store for me, but I was so excited when the instructor said we’d be using boxing gloves! We switched off with different bag exercises followed by a bit of core work. My arms are killing me today. I can’t wait to go again!! It was such a challenging, but fun workout.
The rest of Saturday was spent organizing. Such a great feeling, don’t you think? Later in the evening, swanky boyfriend and I headed to my aunt’s house to celebrate my grandma’s birthday!
My aunt has the most adorable dog, Guy!
Tony loved him too! We both held him and played with him the whole night! He got lots of attention!
I also got a chance to visit with my cousins. My cousin Brandon always makes me laugh..he is too silly.
My aunt had a fabulous idea to get a frozen custard cake. I will have to say that this was a great choice.
Melty custard and crunchy oreo cookie crust…it was divine!
On Sunday, the boy and I started off with a mini workout at my condo gym. I did 20 minutes on the treadmill gradually increasing both the incline and speed. Holy moly, my calves were burning. I have been trying to be more consistent with workouts and feel great!
I hosted book club later that afternoon. The book this month was Extremely Loud Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. I didn’t read this month’s book, but it was purely by accident. I got this month’s read confused with next months.
As Wikipedia states, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is a 2005 novel by Jonathan Safran Foer. The book’s narrator is a nine-year-old boy named Oskar Schell. In the story, Oskar discovers a key in a vase that belonged to his father that inspires him to search all around New York for information about the key.”
Between everyone bringing something, there was tons of food!
Hmmm..let’s see..
Crackers, bread, cheese, fruit salad…
Mozzarella sticks…
A take on stuffed chickpea avocados…
with a little wine of course. ![]()
There were lots of chocolately treats as well. YUM!
Those who read the book were a bit unsure how much they really liked it. The movie was pretty good, but very sad at times. We really need to choose lighter reads.
I am glad I got in some good workouts and healthy eats to balance out the indulgences I enjoyed this weekend!
How was your weekend? Have you ever taken a boxing class before?

I did kickboxing in middle school with my soccer team. It was a lot of fun at the time and I imagine I would love it now too. Punching bags and feeling tough would be awesome! However…I would NEVER get in to a ring and want to actually box. I’m too much of a scardy cat for that and it’s just really not in my personality to literally want to beat up another person (or get beat up myself, which is probably what would happen)!
I agree with you!
Although punching a bag is a blast, I would NEVER want to fight someone. I would definitely be freaking out!
I’ve never taken a kickboxing class and have never really been interested in taking one. But lately several of my friends have taken kickboxing and enjoyed it a lot. So maybe I’ll take one, too one day… Glad you enjoyed the class!
The last chocolate dessert looks sooo good!
Boxing sounds intense!! I’d love to try it. I’d also love to try a custard cake! Lol.
What a fun weekend, Kristen! The boxing circuit training sounds like a tough (but super rewarding) workout; congrats on surviving! I’ve always dreamed about slipping on boxing gloves and slugging away at a punching bag. Now I’m inspired to sign up for a class!
Happy birthday to your grandmother! The frozen custard cake you celebrated with looks delightful—and so do the treats brought to your house by the fellow book club members! This post has obviously made me hungry.
Hope you have a wonderful Monday! xoxo <3
Looks and sounds like a great weekend! I have read that book but not seen the movie – it’s one I’m not sure I need to see but I imagine I’ll get to it eventually
And you have reminded me that trying boxing again (or kick boxing most likely) is on my ‘to do’ list; I have only done it a handful of times but always found it really fun.
And, that cake looks amazing!
I took kickboxing classes back in middle school because I was interested in getting into shape (I’d become pretty inactive and maybe slightly overweight in my early teen years) and I LOVED it! Even though I only did it for a few months, it was such a great workout and made me realize how good it feels to exercise and be strong
I’ve never taken a regular boxing class, but it looks fun!
I’ve done Wii boxing – does that count?
And I’ve been wanting to watch that movie but my boyfriend never wants to watch it with me! I guess I’ll have to watch it on my own. I love Tom Hanks and I actually really like sad movies most of the time.
aw, how adorable is Gary?! so precious!
I’ve been meaning to read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I haven’t seen the movie either but I remembered that it didn’t get very good reviews. I’ll give those a try though! your book club food looks absolutely amazing btw
Sounds like a great weekend, and happy birthday to your Grandma! I’ve never done a boxing workout befor, but, great idea to try a class out with a groupon! My killer arm workout recently was helping my son dig a 2 foot deep hole at the beach in the sand. That was over 3 days ago and my arms and back are still sore! Hope you havea fabulous week
So much food! And so delicious looking! I haven’t done a boxing work out before, but I bet I’d like it!
Happy belated birthday to your Grandma! All the food on this post looks delicious, although now I really have a craving for mozzarella sticks!
It’s 70 degrees today and sunny – can’t wait to get out at lunch today!
Oh my goodness – everything looks so delicious!
I’ve never tried boxing but I’ve actually always been curious about it!
I’m so into reading this summer. I never get the chance to do it during the school year because I give myself a guilt trip that I should be reading a textbook for class instead (silly, I know). So far, I’ve read 3 books since coming home and am working on another 2 right now. I’ve never been that into very serious/sad books, but maybe I should try some more so I’m not missing out on anything really good!
Oh How I miss kickboxing!! My trainer knew exactly when I was having a bad day..It was such an awesome way to get my frustrations and anger out! Is regular boxing class a lot different? Oh, all the food look amazing!! I wanna go to your book club!!
That workout sounds fun. I’d love to try boxing sometime. Of course, I’d also like to try those chocolatey treats!
I absolutely love boxing. I love the intensity and having someone bark orders at me. I know it sounds punishing but it takes someone else to really push my to my limits! Glad you found something new you enjoy!
Yes, it was such a great workout! Can’t wait to go back!
Yeah you tried boxing!! Good for you!! It’s an awesome workout!! If you loved it then you should def try muay thai or kickboxing… the only prob is that you end up with some killer bruises which isn’t pretty especially as it’s coming up to summer! :/ Also thanks for the little mini review on the book, was thinking of buying it the other day but went for fifty shades of grey instead… oh my… haha! Definitely not one to read on public transport (as I found out on the tube!) Haha!
Let me know what you think of 50 shades of Grey! I am curious if I should read it or not.
