San Diego Bound

May 31, 2012

I can’t even contain my excitement! It has been way too long since I have gone on a vacation. The boy and I are headed to San Diego this weekend! He is running the marathon Sunday and we are going to enjoy some beach time, Sea World, and L

ittle Italy after. Being the girl that I am, I have been coming up with outfit ideas for weeks now. I may still throw a couple things in depending on the weather forecast. It’s looking a bit questionable right now. Fingers crossed it turns around.

Clothes I’m Wearing

When it comes to traveling, I am not always the best packer. I already know I am bringing way too much on this trip. Since were driving, I don’t have to worry about checking a bag so I am ok with packing a bit more.

  • 5 short sleeve tops
  • 1 tank
  • 1 navy cardigan
  • 2 jackets –1 pullover and 1 zipper

  • 2 dresses (both from Target)

IMG_9964

  • skinny jeans
  • red skinny jeans (my newest purchase)
  • bright blue jean shorts (for the beach)
  • black shorts (not shown, they need to be washed)

IMG_9966

  • bathing suit (I snagged this adorable Roxy swimsuit at Costco!)

A lot of these items I can layer which is key!

What I’ll Be Reading

I packed

a couple reads mostly for the car ride and beach. I haven’t had too much time to read so I am a little behind. Our next book club read is Sense and Sensibility which I snagged at Target for real cheap to bring along as well. I figured I ‘d try to get through it. Anyone ever read a Jane Austen book? The wording always gets me.

What I’ll Be Eating

The boy and I are heading to the grocery store on Friday to get some last minute purchases.

We are bringing fruit (bananas, apples, cherries), KIND bars, crackers and cheese, wine and beer. You know, the necessities. The hotel we are staying at offers complimentary breakfast so that helps!

IMG_9993

Of course I will be bringing my camera! I will be sure to give you a San Diego recap when I get back! Smile

Other Swanky Scoop:

I couldn’t wait to share with you an amazing giveaway I won from Tanya! I won, wait for it, a pair of OrthoLite insoles!! (I watch too much How I Met Your Mother!)

IMG_9897

They slid right into my shoes and fit like a glove.

IMG_9899

I wore them out the other day we went hiking and I definitely felt a bit of extra cushion! Thanks so much, Tanya! I love them.

IMG_9900

Thanks so much for reading!! If I get it figured out, I will be sending out a post while on my trip.

What are your vacation must haves? Have you ever tried insoles?

Have fun! I’ve never been to San Diego but have heard it’s beautiful! I rarely get to go to the west coast anymore. I’m looking forward to a wedding in Vegas in the fall though!

Nikki May 31, 2012 at 3:29 pm

Antonia Trujillo May 31, 2012 at 3:43 pm

Have fun! I love those red jeans and blue shorts!!! I’ve been looking for some coral jeans but I just can’t find them in “little people size” and by that a mean short in length. Lol! Enjoy your getaway !!!

Swanky Dietitian May 31, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Thanks Antonia!
I got these at Forever 21..you know me. ;)
They are pretty short (hence why I am only wearing them at the beach). Try looking there! :)

Lexie @ This Aussie Eats May 31, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Sounds like you have a fun weekend ahead! I love San Diego. I was there last year over fourth of July, riding the tandem bikes along the boardwalk is a blast if you have time (and energy after finishing a marathon lol).

Good luck to Swanky boy for the race!!

Nicole, RD May 31, 2012 at 4:52 pm

Have a blast! I love that you’re bringing beer and wine, lol!!! :) Those dresses are adorable! I need to check out Target…and CostCo apparently! ;)

Allison @ PickyEatingRD May 31, 2012 at 4:57 pm

I am so jealous! Enjoy San Diego. It is one of my favorite cities. The beaches are absolutely gorgeous; Can’t wait for your recap!

I love planning outfits for vacation! I love that blue dress from Target – I have the skirt in the same print, but I think I might like the dress better :-) I also love planning and packing food for road trips – I usually go overboard and bring way too much but at least I have fun doing it.

Have a wonderful trip and tell swanky boyfriend good luck in the marathon!

Swanky Dietitian May 31, 2012 at 8:41 pm

I saw the skirt and was about to grab that instead. Great minds think alike! :)
I will let him know, thanks!!

Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles May 31, 2012 at 7:41 pm

Kari @ bite-sized thoughts June 1, 2012 at 12:09 am

Have fun! And I love your clothes selection :D

Amy @Ahealtheeater June 1, 2012 at 1:07 am

Funny story: This weekend I had finally realized for the first time that some insoles are meant to replace the original insole for your shoe…I had been putting them on top! I kept returning them because they didn’t fit…opps!

I love all your outfits you packed! You definitely have great taste! Have a fun trip!

Melanie @ Nutritious Eats June 1, 2012 at 2:44 am

How fun. I miss SD so much! Looks like you packed well! Cute stuff. The weather will be cool like here in Washington. Have fun!

Sara @ Nourish and Flourish June 1, 2012 at 5:53 am

So much to love in this post! First, San Diego is one of my favorite US cities, so I’m looking forward to reading about all the fun you’ll be having there. I love the Gaslamp District—it’s such a fun place to stroll, and the restaurants are pretty fab too.

Your clothing selections look perfect for 60 degree weather. The red jeans are so chic, and the floral bathing suit is fun! I always have the same problem with over-packing, but every time I’ve made a conscious effort to travel light, I’ve regretted not bringing something. So I’ve just accepted the fact that I’m high maintenance and roll with it. :-D

Swanky Dietitian June 1, 2012 at 7:39 pm

Haha, yes I am high maintenance as well. Nothing wrong with that!

Monica June 1, 2012 at 8:02 pm

I ALWAYS make sure I have enough food packed when I go away. I hard boil some eggs, bring lots of veggies, and nuts. Once i even brought tilapia to eat on the plane, i was surprised i made it through the airport with various types of produce in my carry on!

Natalie @ will jog for food June 1, 2012 at 8:59 pm

Have fun on your trip! I’m surprised it’s gonna be that cold in San Diego! It’s up in the 90s where I am and I’m 8 hours North.

I can’t believe they had that bikini at Costco! SO cute!

Jocelyn @ Peace Love Nutrition June 1, 2012 at 9:56 pm

Have fun on your trip! The weather forecast for NYC says rain all weekend : (

I went through a Jane Austin phase now I’m reading the Bronte Sisters

Swanky Dietitian June 2, 2012 at 12:30 am

Bummer. I love rainy weather, but maybe just for a day or two. Hope it clears up!

Brittany June 2, 2012 at 1:23 am

I have insoles in my hiking shoes, and they seem to do the job!! I can’t really tell the difference, but my feet hurt less when I wear them. Have a blast!! I am a very awkward packer, I get anxious and always feel like I am leaving something behind.

Kristina @ Love and Zest June 2, 2012 at 3:09 am

Awe… have fun on your getaway! Enjoy, enjoy!

EA-The Spicy RD June 2, 2012 at 1:20 pm

I just woke up early to an overcast morning, and see that you are in my town. Yay! It’s been clearing up later in the day so hopefully you will have some decent weather :-) Too funny all those clothes you packed. I love the bathing find at Costco! Little Italy is alot of fun-DM me on Twitter if U need a good restaurant recommendation, although there are so many great options I’m sure you will find something good! My hubby is hosting a box for work at the Padres game today, so we will be there this afternoon cheering them on. I hope SB has a great race!

Andrea@WellnessNotes June 3, 2012 at 2:01 am

I hope you are having a great time and that it’s a bit warmer than the forecast (and not raining)…

Great clothes! I always pack too much. But I figure it’s better than bringing not enough (especially when we are driving)… :)

I was obsessed with Jane Austen about 20 years ago and read all her books. I’ll have to read them again…

Sarah June 3, 2012 at 9:43 pm

Oooh, have a great holiday! I love your bikini, very cute for the beach!

Tanya @ Dine, Dash, and Deadlift June 4, 2012 at 1:12 am

Yay, glad you got a chance to wear them! Hope you had a great trip!! I am so behind on everyone’s blogs after being away that I am just now playing catch-up!

Corrie Anne June 4, 2012 at 5:11 am

What an awesome trip! I always travel with food and books!!

Cecilia @ My Life Sans Gluten June 10, 2012 at 4:20 am

Wow I can’t believe those dresses are from Target–they’re SUPER cute!!

Swanky Dietitian June 11, 2012 at 12:44 am

Thanks Cecilia!
I love Target! They have the best clothes!
So glad you stopped by. :)
