A Day In The Life of Me

May 17, 2012

Happy Thursday! Recently I have been seeing more blogs document “a life in the day” so to speak, and thought it’d be fun to do the same. Since I only blog a few times a week, you may not get an idea of my daily routine.

One of the first things I d

o is feed my cats. The other morning when I slept in, they were not shy about telling me they were hungry.

Normally, I try to get up around 6 but end up snoozing until 6:30 most days.

After showering, I usually turn on my computer to start school work. I poured myself a bowl of cereal with sliced bananas for an easy breakfast while waiting to log in. I am loving this Kashi Heart to Heart.

Also, I make sure to get a cup of coffee going. Need that caffeine!

IMG_9659

The class I am currently taking in my Master’s Program is Epidemiology. This class is tough, but I know I can get through it. The nice thing about this program is that each course is only 7 weeks!

I have to admit with my computer on, I sneak a bit of blog reading read and occasionally write a post or edit pictures for a post in the mornings too. Thankfully, I have good company. Smile

Speaking of my cats, while I work away you can often times find them outside on my patio. I know, they sure have the life.

Aro

und 7:30, I will get my lunch ready for work along with packing my bag for a lunch workout. My lunch consisted of homemade soup my mom made, a salad, pineapple Chobani, and strawberries.

IMG_9661

I finish getting ready for work and leave the house at 9:30 to be at work at 10. Since going back to school, I work 32 hours which has really saved me! Here is a picture of my office.

As many of you may know, I work in an outpatient cardiac clinic. I see patients most the day, providing nutrition education to children and their families.

I get off work at 6 and am home around 6:30. The boy and I usually spend 3 days of the work week together. We made salads together and also a recipe that will be coming up for Recipe ReDux…stay tuned.

Often times we relax with a little TV and sometimes a glass of wine.

I try to be in bed by 10, before I start it all over again!

Other Swanky Scoop:

EA, the spicy RD, tagged me in a fun post the other day. Thanks EA!

  • Where are you located? Las Vegas , NV
  • Where would you prefer to be located? I always thought it’d be fun to live in a city like Seattle and Portland . I love Vegas but haven’t lived anywhere else.
  • Favorite cooking tools? Hmm…cutting board, knife, and music playing on Pandora.
  • Last song you rocked out to? The newest Pitbull song! We have a dance to it in zumba.
  • Favorite Color: I think blue is becoming one of my favorites. And I just love yellow!
  • Favorite Time Waster: Lately, reading home improvement and fashion blogs. I can spend hours!
  • Favorite exercise: Zumba! No other exercise is half as fun. I love yoga too!

I am passing this on to Michelle @ Better with Berries, Heather @ Where’s The Beach, and Tiff @ Love, Sweat, and Beers.

Thanks for reading! Hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Any fun plans?

Man I would love to not be at work until 10. I’m here at 7 am! My hubby makes fun of how many containers of food I pack up each day for lunch. Glad I’m not alone ;-)

Nicole, RD May 17, 2012 at 3:09 pm

I would love to work with kids some day!!

Caroline @ After Dinner Dance May 17, 2012 at 3:22 pm

I always find these day in the life posts fun! I assume you’re in school to get an MPH to add to your RD credentials? I’m starting school in the fall and I’m not sure if I’m looking forward to epidemiology!

Natalie @ will jog for food May 17, 2012 at 4:14 pm

Busy day! I gotta have my morning coffee, I just dont feel right without it. Some times, I feel like i love the ritual of it more than i need the coffee :)

This weekend I’m going to a Wine Fest on Sat & Chocolate Fest on Sun. So psyched!

Heather May 17, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Awesome seeing what other RD’s do in a day. Two small notes, in the paragraph talking about your epidemiology class you said that you can’t do it, I think you meant can do it. And when you talk about packing your ‘back’, I think you meant bag. Sounds like your schedule is incredibly busy. I don’t know how you fit in time to blog. You must have super powers!

Oh my gosh, it was one of those mornings!! Thanks, I changed my mistakes.
I guess I am too busy to check my post. ;)

Antonia Trujillo May 17, 2012 at 4:28 pm

I love the new office! Keep up the good job!

Swanky Dietitian May 17, 2012 at 6:19 pm

Thanks Antonia!
Hope you’re doing well! I miss ya! :)

EA-The Spicy RD May 17, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Fun to hear about your typical day Kristen, and I love those cat dishes!! Sounds like you are super busy, but manage to keep life balanced, which I think is so important. After reading more about you, I am convinced I need to try Zumba :-) Enjoy the rest of your week! xo

Swanky Dietitian May 17, 2012 at 8:19 pm

Thanks EA! Yes, you need to try zumba. I think you’ll love it!!

Michelle (Better with Berries) May 17, 2012 at 4:48 pm

As I was reading your survey, I was thinking, “I need to steal this idea and do it too!” So glad you passed it on to me :-) And I might steal your “day in the life” idea too.

I love seeing your office! I love seeing how people spend their day. But especially swanky dietitians :-)

Tanya @ Dine, Dash, and Deadlift May 17, 2012 at 5:08 pm

I hate epi. Not my thing. I took a Social Epi course this past semester and it all just seemed so common sense I guess? I am not a full on basic scientist, but the behavioral/social/epi world is not my scene. Clinical and Applied sciences all the way! ;-)

Swanky Dietitian May 17, 2012 at 8:18 pm

I agree! It is painful!!

Beth @ 990 Square May 17, 2012 at 7:38 pm

This is a fun post! I like seeing other people’s real lifes! :-)

Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers May 17, 2012 at 8:24 pm

Ha, my cats wake me up too. Jerks.

I like your office, and I’d probably like that wine too! ;)

Biz May 17, 2012 at 9:01 pm

I love getting up early now – I try to get up at 6, and if I go to the gym, I try to get there by 6:30 (its only a 8 minute drive from my house).

If I don’t go to the gym, I don’t have to leave for work until 8:10, so I have just over two hours to blog, prep for dinner, etc. – before I wouldn’t wake up until 7:50!

Glad to have the insight to your day! :D

Andrea@WellnessNotes May 17, 2012 at 9:17 pm

I love the pics of your study/blog reading buddies! Too cute!

Cute lunch bag!

teri@managedmacros May 17, 2012 at 10:22 pm

What a cute idea!!! I see the What I Ate on Wednesday posts quit a bit!!! I love your kitties and their feeding bowls..I have 2 of those fuzzy friends, myself! Very fun…nice to see your ‘day!’

Swanky Dietitian May 17, 2012 at 10:29 pm

I just love ‘em! And they are SUPER spoiled but I wouldn’t have it any other way. :)

Kari @ bite-sized thoughts May 18, 2012 at 12:16 am

This was such a fun post to read – and your cat’s bowl is so cute! I love your office too, and was interested to read you’re studying epidemiology. I work mostly in health-related research so there’s some overlap with what I do :D

Amy @Ahealtheeater May 18, 2012 at 2:23 am

I love your office! I keep trying to figure out ways to make mine much cuter, but I’m failing. Yours definitely gives me some inspiration!

I have no set plans this weekend, but my best friend will be in town this weekend so I’m sure we will have a blast hanging out :)

Swanky Dietitian May 18, 2012 at 2:20 pm

We recently moved to another floor and I got a bit of an office makeover (new desk, new coat of paint, etc.) so I figured I should try and keep it organized. :)
Have a great weekend!

Kocinera May 18, 2012 at 3:47 am

Yay! I love day-in-the-life posts! I really admire your dedication to waking up early and working on school. I tend to save my homework for laaaate at night. :D And your lunch sounds so yummy!!

Lexie @ This Aussie Eats May 18, 2012 at 4:06 am

Your day is definitely jam-packed! Glad you find time to relax with a lil vino and swanky boy though :-)

Swanky Dietitian May 18, 2012 at 2:19 pm

Thanks Lexie! :)

Sarah May 18, 2012 at 2:23 pm

Wow, you’re an early riser… wish I could be like that! I can’t help but sleep in so late. You sound like you get a lot accomplished in the morning which is fantastic.

Swanky Dietitian May 18, 2012 at 3:59 pm

Well, that isn’t always the case. haha.
But I do like getting things accomplished in the am. :)

Ro @ Eat Live Move May 18, 2012 at 4:25 pm

Hey there! It was nice taking a look into your day. I love to listen to Pandora while cooking too. Nice to meet you!

Swanky Dietitian May 18, 2012 at 6:50 pm

Hi Ro! So glad you stopped by!
Have a fabulous weekend! :)

kailey May 18, 2012 at 6:07 pm

i love when dietitians do a “day in the life” post because I can’t wait to be one! haha

Swanky Dietitian May 18, 2012 at 6:51 pm

Yay! So glad to hear you’ll be joining us as an RD one day! It’s a great profession!

CJ at Food Stories May 18, 2012 at 7:21 pm

I love your “day in the life” … Happy Weekend :-)

Brandi May 18, 2012 at 8:22 pm

My cats always let me have it when I over sleep! :)

Baking Serendipity May 19, 2012 at 4:18 am

My dog licks my face until I wake up when I try sleeping in…he’s ready for food and a morning walk before me! I am envious of your morning start time, and impressed you wake up as early as you do in spite of it!

Sara @ Nourish and Flourish May 19, 2012 at 6:55 am

Cute cat dishes! I think if I owned a set, I’d be tempted to use them myself. ;) Your cats are absolutely adorable too!

I’m with you on yellow and blue being the best colors, although I’d throw pink into the mix too. I’m such a girl! Looking forward to the recipe ReDux! I spy anchovies, which I happen to LOVE!

Hope you have a great weekend, Kristen!

Hayley @ Oat Couture May 20, 2012 at 3:41 pm

I loved reading this ‘day in the life’ post! :) You have inspired me to work much harder at my course, so thanks for that! Honestly, although I have no other obligations at this time I still somehow manage to spend far too much time procrastinating. The fact that you get up at 6 to study before holding a full time job is really admirable! Also I am now more than a little nervous about epidemiology – I have it coming up in my first year of uni! Eek! And finally your cats are sooo cute, they look so chilled! Love it!
