Cocktail Sundays
March 28, 2012
Hi, friends! I have to tell you about the fabulous Sunday I had. No, I promise I am not going to gush about Hunger Games again.
I had told the boy earlier that week that we should start having dinner out on my patio and enjoy a fruity drink with our meal! And that friends was how Cocktail Sundays were born! I think it’s such a nice treat to sit back and relax after having a crazy work and school week.

When looking up drink recipes, I almost had too many options to choose from. The mojito I concocted was a combination of a few recipes so I figured I could call it my own. And with only 1/3 cup added sugar…can’t beat that!

Tangerine and Grapefruit Mojitos (serves 4)
Ingredients:
- 4 grapefruits (2 juiced and 2 segmented)
- 2 tangerines
- ¾ cup white rum
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup water
- ½ cup packed mint leave
- crushed ice

Directions:
Squeeze juice from grapefruits and segment other two grapefruits. (I used my new juicer from Anthropologie!
)

Squeeze one tangerine and segment other to be added to the pitcher.

Combine grapefruit juice and segments, tangerine juice and segments, mint leaves, white rum, ice ….

and water.

Stir well to combine. I would recommend doing a taste test. The ingredients were eye balled a bit toward the end to make sure it wasn’t too strong.

This drink was delicious and just sweet enough! The tartness of the fruits was complemented by the hint of mint that you enjoy with each sip.

With all my recipe combining, I forgot to actually add seltzer, which many of the recipes called for. It tasted pretty delightful without it but I would recommend you adding it so it won’t be quite as strong.
Slightly sweet and oh so refreshing. It’s the perfect cocktail for spring and come summer! But at that time, I think we might be enjoying it indoors..110 degree heat and me don’t mix all that well.

The tangerines were a last minute idea from the boy and they really made the drink! You can enjoy this down to the every last grapefruit and tangerine segment. YUM!

This cocktail also gave me the chance to use my darling glasses that I purchased with a gift card from my aunt at Pier 1! I had to copy my sister since she already owns a set. And they are ideal for parties since everyone can write their name on their glass. I guess that means I should throw a party. Want to come?

Love that juicer – too cute! I’m a wine girl through and through. I enjoy cocktails every now and then, but I always find myself thinking, “I’d rather be sipping a delicious glass of ___”. Wine is healthier too, right? Maybe?
What a gorgeous juicer!! Oh my word!! And the chalkboard glass. Too adorable!! I really don’t drink much.. but it looks gorgeous!
what a fun drink!
My hubby loves making his own mojitos. He’d love that one. I love that juicer. So pretty. I am a fan of a simple strawberry daiquiri. We started making them by just blending frozen berries, ice, & vanilla vodka. That’s it.
I love all things citrus – that drinks sounds right up my alley!
I love sangria in the summer – I never think of it in the winter.
This isn’t really a “cocktail,” but I love Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy! It is my favorite summer time alcoholic beverage
YUM! Ok, I feel a bit silly asking, but is it a beer? I would love to try it.
Yes it is beer! The Shock Top Lemon Shandy isn’t bad either. You definitely need to try them, if you like Blue Moon then you will love them
PS- Sorry I just saw you commented back, opps!
I will have to try it out! I love Blue Moon!
Thanks Amy!
I’m ready to party with you and homemade mojitos any time!
Thanks for sharing this recipe…Mojitos are such a fun, refreshing drink–perfect for spring and summer!
I LOVE your Anthropologie juicer! So so cute. xoxo
Those sound amazing! I think I need to create Cocktail Sundays at my house! I made grapefruit margaritas once…YUM!
Cocktail Sundays? I can definitely get behind that! I just had a yummy grapefruit this morning but I think I’d prefer your version!
Yum! I like citrus beverages. I don’t have any cocktail ideas for you. I don’t drink them often, but every once in a while I love a good bloody mary!
I want to have Cocktail Sundays! That sounds fabulous!
I’m a big fan of Sangria and love that it can be adjusted and created based upon whatever is in season at the moment!
Yes, I love sangria!
Definitely going to be on my “to make” list for Cocktail Sundays!
Looks delicious! Those glasses are seriously cool, too.
Thanks Sarah!
I love eating dinner outside on pretty evenings. This weather makes me want to be out there all the time!
I am such a trendsetter! Haha
I love cocktail Sunday!!
Just wish I could be there with you =)
I love that you made your own cocktails!
Love the juicer {I missed that at my last trip to Anthro}, and the glasses, and the cocktail! Kinda wish it was a sunny Sunday afternoon right now instead of a grey and gloomy Thursday afternoon. I was thinking of you earlier today…my 8 yo just finished reading Hunger Games {I didn’t even know he was reading it!} and really liked it. He’s now on book 2. So, between his recommendation and your recommendation, I really think I need to read it! Enjoy the rest of your week
Yes, it’s such a great book series!
You have inspired me to start up our cocktail hour again!
Sometimes enjoying life is just about kicking back in the garden with something fruity and alcoholic!
I couldn’t agree more!
