I Heart Hunger Games

March 25, 2012

Hi!  Although I really could dedicate this post just to the Hunger Games movie, gushing about how much I love, love, loved it, I figured I should at least tell you about the rest of my weekend first.

Let me back up to Friday

The boy came over for a date night.  He brought me flowers!

Along with flowers, the boy made me quite the delicious dinner.  I’m telling you, he sure can cook.

We also enjoyed a glass of red with our meal.

I got to use my new wine charm swanky sister made for me.  Thanks sister!

We ate, watched TV, and just relaxed.  It was such an amazing night! Smile

Saturday

After a seriously killer weight workout at the gym, I decided to use a coupon I had for a smoothie at Greens and Proteins.  Remember, when I had dinner there?   Seriously yum.

The green shake was really flavorful and trust me when I say that you can’t taste the vegetables.  I don’t make green smoothies at home, but I really need to start.

Soy Milk, Banana, Mango, Almonds, Avocado, Green Apples, Orange, Lime, Spinach, Kale, Ice

I met a few friends for what I guess you could call a second birthday dinner later that night.  I know I have blogged about eating at Yard House before, but I really enjoy their food so we go their often.

I decided to “be good” and order a drink from their fresh and skinny menu (although I blew all chances of healthy choices with my entree Winking smile).

IMG_8680

With just tequila and lime juice, the drink was very refreshing and much better for my waistline than a traditional margarita.

Our sister’s vegetarian menu choice inspired the rest of us to do the same.  My friend and I decided to split two entrees.

First, we ordered the gardein (mac and cheese)2.

“Chicken”, wild mushrooms, cheddar, parmesan, campanelle pasta & truffle oil.

I’ve never had a chicken substitute like this and, I must say,  it was very delicious.  I could barely taste the difference.  The mac and cheese was thick, creamy, with a slight crunch from the crusted parmesan.

Us girls love our pasta Smile and we also split the shitake garlic noodles.

Tossed with butter, garlic and shiitake mushrooms, topped with parmesan and chives.

The sauce on the noodles was excellent!

After dinner, the waiter brought out a special soufflé for the birthday girl. Chocolate soufflé and me are a match made in heaven.

IMG_8693

I loved getting the chance to catch up with girlfriends.  And hey, who wouldn’t like to celebrate their birthday more than once!?

IMG_8689

They also spoiled me with gifts!  Wine, chocolate, and a pop maker!

IMG_8695

I can already imagine making delicious pops come summer.

Let’s get to the good stuff!  The #HungerGames movie was amazing! Seriously, it made me want to read all the books again.

I think they cast the roles perfectly!  Some of my friends weren’t sold on the role of Peeta, but I think he will grow more on them.  And Katniss is so kick-butt in the movie! Just love it!

I can’t wait for the next movie!  I may have to go see this one in theaters again…just maybe.  Winking smile

Sounds like a great weekend!

I love your wine charm! And the dinner the boy cooked looks delicious! Love men that cook! :)

I make green smoothies all the time. It’s such a great way to get tons and tons of veggies into your diet. And as you said, you really can’t taste them (or if you can, they actually taste great!).

Have a great week!

Swanky Dietitian March 26, 2012 at 1:50 am

Thanks Andrea!
I will have to look on your blog for ideas! :)

Caroline @ After Dinner Dance March 26, 2012 at 12:19 am

I thought the movie was great too! A much much better adaptation than Twilight (by like a million!).

Swanky Dietitian March 26, 2012 at 1:46 am

Yeah, I agree!! The cast they went with was great! :)

Tanya @ Dine, Dash, and Deadlift March 26, 2012 at 1:20 am

The shitake garlic noodles look amazing! Will have to find a recipe for it to try out. I love that the restaurant wrote “Birthday” on your dessert plate – so fun!

I haven’t read Hunger Games, but have heard nothing but good things. I do want to see the movie though! Will probably wait until the crowds die down a bit because I don’t like being in packed movie theaters! Makes me feel claustrophobic!

Tiffany March 26, 2012 at 1:45 am

I read the hunger games trilogy and absolutely LOVED them! Every.single.one. And I cannot wait to see the movie!! I’m glad to hear you liked it….sometimes you never know.

Swanky Dietitian March 26, 2012 at 1:46 am

Yes, you will love the movie! :)
There were a few differences, but overall, all of us really enjoyed it! Can’t wait to hear what you think.

Allison @ PickyEatingRD March 26, 2012 at 3:26 am

I’ve yet to read The Hunger Games and am trying to do so before I see the movie. I’ll prob. end up renting it when it comes out; I am the world’s slowest reader! Gorgeous flowers – the boy did good!

Happy bday weekend! I love your trips!!! What a great weekend for you…that dessert looks AMAZING, I love the bday stencil..how clever!
Hunger Games….I am still on book 3 (have been for 3 months now!). I am very excited to see it…I have only heard great reviews!

Simply Life March 26, 2012 at 11:09 am

ohhh-that gets me excited to see the movie!

Heather (Where's the Beach) March 26, 2012 at 3:02 pm

Ok, want that mac n cheese. And I love that the boyfriend cooks for you!

Biz March 26, 2012 at 6:31 pm

Yep, definitely love spreading the March birthday love throughout the month – we had our last birthday get together yesterday, so now its back to being good!

p.s. I somehow decided birthday cake was insulin worthy!

Sounds like a fun and delicious weekend! I think you will love your Zoku-I bought one last year and it’s so fun to make almost instant popsicles. I have not read Hunger Games, but my 10 yo daughter wants to go see it…What are your thoughts for that age??? My Saturday night was a blast-had fun dancing all night to 80s music at our annual elementary school fundraiser :-)

Swanky Dietitian March 26, 2012 at 8:22 pm

I saw a lot of younger children in the movie, but personally, I was a bit surprised. I think it is a bit of a heavier movie (they are put in an arena to kill each other) but I have heard a lot of young children have read the books. It isn’t too graphic but there are quite a few deaths that take place. Hope that helps.
Sounds like a fabulous night!! Love 80s music! :)

Lauren March 26, 2012 at 9:02 pm

Oh the Zoku, what a great gift. Idea- take those smoothie ingredients and make green popsicles. I also love that tequila/lime “skinny drink” was it just those 2 ingredients?

Swanky Dietitian March 26, 2012 at 9:04 pm

That’s all that was listed on the menu. It didn’t mention even the addition of any sweetener, but who knows. I may try to recreate at home with the two ingredients and see how it tastes. ;)

Amber Shea @Almost Vegan March 26, 2012 at 9:20 pm

Wow, you should hold onto that boy if he cooks like that! :)

I just finished reading the first Hunger Games book, and I liked it ok, but I’m a Battle Royale fan, so I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bother me that she kinda-sorta stole the plot from that book! :P

Michelle (Better with Berries) March 27, 2012 at 1:03 am

First of all… your sister MADE that?? Holy cow! Does she have an etsy store or anything? I want one!

It looks like you had a great birthday weekend, as it should be :-)

I kind of agree with your friends about Peeta – I think he LOOKS the way I imagined (with a cute baby face :-) ) but he just seemed a little more of a wuss (sorry, Peeta) in the movie than he was in the book. But maybe you are right – he might come around for me. He’s pretty cute, so there’s a good chance of that happening!

Corrie Anne March 27, 2012 at 4:03 am

Those pop makers look awesome. And I’d totally go for that mac ‘n’ cheese!

Sara @ Nourish and Flourish March 27, 2012 at 4:39 am

I am SO behind on the Hunger Games craze! But catch up, I will! I *just* bought the book over the weekend, and plan on starting it once I’m finished with my research paper. I’ve heard such great things–can’t wait! I’m hoping I’ll finish it before it leaves the theater!

My goodness, what an incredibly delicious looking dinner! That mac n’ cheese is my kind of meal…and same with the garlic noodles! You can never go wrong with pasta. And it’s good that the gentleman in your life knows that too…Holy moly, his cooking skills sure are impressive! ;)

Nicole, RD March 28, 2012 at 6:41 pm

I loooove that wine charm – so cute!

I just started the second book, and if it’s half as good as the first…can’t wait. I think I’m going to take my parents to see the movie this weekend. They haven’t read the books, but it has gotten such good reviews they want to go :)
