A Good Year

March 19, 2012

Hi!  I know that 28 is going to be a really good year!  Smile

I had a wonderful birthday!  I spent the day with swanky boy where he proceeded to spoil me through the day by making me not only breakfast, but lunch.  While I lounged around watching re-runs of Four Weddings on TLC.  Good stuff.

After being lazy most of the day, we decided to see a  movie before heading to meet my family for dinner.  We both thought the movie, Friends with Kids, looked really funny.  And how can you go wrong with most the cast being from Bridesmaids!?!

Although the movie was good, it’s not what we expected.  The trailer must have thrown us off, because it was a much more serious plot than we thought.

Since the movie theater wasn’t far from the restaurant, we headed right over.  The boy and I got all dressed up for the evening.

The family and I enjoying the evening!

I really had a difficult time deciding on a place for dinner, but ended up going with a favorite of mine, Settebello.  Seriously, their pizza is ammmaziiinng!

IMG_8553

Being the birthday girl, I had to order a drink.  I went with the Giocca de Limone, which is a like an Italian lemon drop.  Molto Bene!!

IMG_8566

Made with grappa, limoncello, basil, and fresh squeezed lemon juice, this drink had some serious kick to it!!  Limocello brings me back to when I studied abroad in Italy.  We drank Limocello mixed with grapefruit juice.  Thinking back, what kind of combination was that!?!  This drink was not as sour, that’s for sure!

After looking through the menu, a few of us decided to share appetizers.

IMG_8544

Our side of the table went with the caprese salad.  This is one of my favorite appetizers.  Fresh mozzarella and tomatoes simply dressed with olive oil, sea salt, and basil.  Perfection!

I have eaten at Settebello a few times and seem to gravitate towards their Quattro Formaggi pizza.  This time was no different.

Crushed Tomatoes, Fontina Cheese, Gorgonzola Cheese, Fresh Mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano, Basil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

The boy went with the Settebello pizza for his entrée.

Crushed Tomatoes, Pancetta, Wood Oven Roasted Fennel Sausage, Roasted Mushrooms, Toasted Pine Nuts, Mozzarella, Basil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

IMG_8586

Their dough is chewy with a perfectly crisp crust.   Never had such a delicious tasting dough.  Was just as tasty as some I’ve tried in Italy.

IMG_8589

You think I would be stuffed with all that food, but I still had room for dessert.  And you need dessert on your birthday. Smile

IMG_8594

This Italian girl loves her Italian desserts, so tiramisu it was.  This tiramisu was drop-your-jaw good.  Creamy mascarpone with a hint of espresso, the flavors combine perfectly!!

IMG_8597

I think the tiramisu deserves one more look…

After dessert, I opened presents!!

My sister got me various dishes and hand towels for blogging.  What a good sister! Smile

The cats, of course, had to sniff it out.

I had such a wonderful birthday and I think 28 will  be a great year!

Thanks for reading!

What a wonderful day!! You and the boy are exuding pure happiness in the first photo! :-D And why wouldn’t you have been, knowing that you were about to enjoy an incredible meal at Settebello with your family? The pizzas look *incredible*, but it’s dessert that really has my mouth watering. Tiramisu is one of my favorites too. My housemate is Italian and makes it from scratch a few times each year. When it’s sitting around the house, it pretty much becomes breakfast, lunch and dinner. ;)

Cheers to another year! I hope it’s the best one yet! xoxo

Happy Birthday! Glad you had a good weekend. I haven’t seen Friends With Kids, but I agree that based upon the trailers it seems funny, not serious…so thanks for the heads up! :-)
