Two Dates In One

February 29, 2012

Hi!  I started my morning meeting swanky boyfriend for a 5am spin date.  I may have mentioned this before, but I am pretty particular about instructors.  When I found that today’s class had a sub, I really wanted to skip out.  The boy suggested we try it out…I mean, how bad could it be??

Umm..it was bad.  I don’t understand how instructors can have such horrible music.  I should have been tipped off when she mentioned she likes lots of European music.  I kid you not, she played Ace of Base.  Granted, my 5th grade self would have loved the class. Winking smile

Needless to say, we made it through.  And it does help having a cute boy with you.

In totally unrelated delicious dinner news, I met with Kristen for dinner at Elixir Organic Café and Lounge.  I have been so busy lately, that we haven’t gotten in as much girl time.

Kristen had a living social deal and suggested we give it a try.  Although not all restaurants are a hit, LS deals give you great opportunities to try out different places.

I like that the menu offers a variety of vegan and vegetarian options. They also have a bunch of delicious smoothies and juices.

Kristen ordered a greens juice! It was pretty tasty!

Although I was eyeing Kristen’s tofu wrap option, which ended up being pretty delicious (I stole a taste Winking smile) …

I went with a Veggie Italian Burger, although I would call more of a veggie panini.

IMG_8281

I loved the combinations of eggplant, roasted red peppers, and parmesan.

IMG_8283

You really can’t beat those flavors.  I loved the crispiness of the bread with the melt in your mouth vegetables.

IMG_8287

My date for the night also had a free dessert with her deal.  We decided to split the vegan carrot cake.

IMG_8290

Wow!!  This cake was soft, fluffy, and full of flavor.  I am always amazed by how delicious vegan desserts can be!  Smile

I think I would come back to Elixir Café.  I eyed someone’s salad which looked pretty delish so I ‘d probably give that a go.

Thanks Kristen for such a fabulous night!

What is the worst song you have heard at a gym or workout class?  What is the best vegan dessert you’ve tried?

That’s hilarious!! At my gym in the Dominican Republic, they used to play extremely graphic American rap songs. I think they probably really didn’t unerstand quite how gross they were. And they BLARED it. They probably thought they were playing it for the two American girls. Lol. On the flip side, I love it when my gym in Denver plays Enrique!

Okay, confession time. I love Ace of Base! *gasp!* I know, I KNOW… ;-) I think they were the first real album I owned, followed by Celine Dion. Quite a combination there. Haha

Your burger/panini looks and sounds delicious! I have a weak spot for eggplant + cheese together, so this is right up my alley. The best vegan desert I’ve had was a warm apple crumble a la mode (served with coconut milk ice cream). I couldn’t believe it was vegan!

Oh boy, I used to put “I saw the sign” on repeat :-)

In college, a student used to come set up his DJ stuff at group classes and blare techno music – I never attended when I saw him in there! It was so loud that you couldn’t the instructor, and I’m not into techno.

I saw the sign!!! Loved that song. Now that I am thinking, I hope I was younger than 5th grade! I remember my friends and I dancing around to that song. ;)

5am bad music, yikes. Impressed your gym has 5am though. As for vegan desserts, love macaroons at place called Peacefood in NYC, I would put that as a tie with the Almond Chunky from Pure and Raw chocolate in Brooklyn. Carrot cake looks delicious.

What a lucky girl you are getting the boy to go to spin with you. Mine would have just laughed at me if I even thought to suggest it. I am really particular about instructors too. I actually stopped going to a few classes because the instructor kept having too many subs. xo

Ugh, hate hate Ace of Base! No instructor should be allowed to play that LOL. I’m with you on being particular. There’s a valid reason for it. Good for you for sticking it out though. And that food…yum yum. The wrap looks awesome.

Oh my goodness. That is too funny! I would have probably been rocking out though- totally used to get down to Ace of Base back in the day. :)

One time I took a Body Pump class and the instructor had us do bicep curls for the length of Britney Spears “Stronger.” It.was.bad. Never went back to her class after that.

Ha! Yes, my sister and I loved the whole album!! We’d listen to it all the time.
I would have to say, that song was probably my favorite out of the whole class..that’s not saying much. ;)

So much yummy food!! I definitely love the egg plant and red pepper combo.

And as a spin instructor I totally understand how a bad play list can make a clad horrible. There’s one class I’ve gone to a few times but the instructor always plays oldies an country music. So not my thing. I always try to add lots of variety because everyone likes different music, but some stuff should just be of limits :)

I must be old, because I’ve never heard of that band!

I hate when the music is so loud the walls are shaking!

Yum, that food looks delicious. 5am spin class! Wow I am serious impressed with you. I wake up at 5 am to get ready for work but I can barely move for the first couple hours I am awake. The Ace of Base actually made me smile. I so loved that cd when I was a kid.

Ace of Base? Now that’s a few steps back in time. Your meal sounds delicious! My favorite vegan dessert has to be Earth Cafe cheesecakes, especially the Cali Lemon. Fabulous stuff! Catching up on my blog reading-love the eggplant involtini, and the Color Run sounds like a blast!
