Hi there!
Since I didn’t give you “typical” weekend post as usual, I thought I’d share it today.
Saturday we celebrated swanky mother’s birthday. She couldn’t seem to decide on a spot for dinner, but eventually went with Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza .
I can’t tell you the last time I had dinner at Sammy’s. Their food is pretty yummy so I think I’ll be making a trip back soon.
Since appetizers were half off (yay, happy hour!), we started off with a few different ones to share.
Hummus
Garbanzo beans, lemon, tahini and garlic dip, extra virgin olive oil, with grilled herb flat bread.
Parmesan Crusted Artichokes
With goat cheese, served with creamy herb dressing.
Garlic Cheese Bread
Roasted garlic sauce, mozzarella cheese, fresh oregano, imported Romano cheese.
This cheese bread was so delicious; I swear I could have eaten the whole basket. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve been trying to cut back on cheese that sent me in overdrive. ![]()
As I perused the menu, my eye kept going back to the vegetarian pizza so I happily went with that as my entrée.
Grilled vegetables including eggplant, onions, zucchini, bell peppers, red onions with fontina, roasted garlic sauce, tomatoes.
This pizza was packed with lots of mouthwatering vegetables (well one would hope given the name, right?
). My point is they didn’t skimp, that’s for sure.
I think my family was a bit jealous because I ended up sharing a slice with each of them.
Can we just talk about dessert?!?
Um..we hated it, can’t you tell?
I love that Sammy’s offers lots of options: gluten free pizza crust, vegan dairy-free mozzarella. That’s great to see!
Let’s talk about Sunday. After a long hiatus with the holidays, my friends and I met again for book club to discuss Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell.
I have to confess, that I didn’t read the book. I know what you’re thinking…why do I attend book club if I didn’t read the book? Well, mainly to chat with my friends. I’m not going to lie.
It gives us all an opportunity to see each other every month and I look forward to it.
And have you seen the size of this book?? It’s over 1000 pages.
We also watched the movie (which is also really long) and I brushed up on the story via wikipedia.
I know I can’t make a real opinion since I only read the summary and watched the movie, but I’m not sure that I loved the story. Gasp! I was a bit surprised it being a classic and all. Those of you have read it, what did you think?
Swanky sister was too sweet and made all kinds of vegan goodies for us. (She watched Forks over Knives with me).
With a side of wine!
And of course we always have lots of furry company. ![]()
All in all, it was a great weekend! How was yours?
Gone With The Wind: yay or nay? What is the longest book you’ve read or movie you’ve watched?
Titanic was pretty lengthy and I watched that movie seriously like 6 times in theaters. I had quite the thing for Leonardo DiCaprio..but didn’t everyone at that time?? I can’t be the only one. ![]()

Ok, that food looks absolutely delish!! I love the pic of the finished dessert. How funny
I have never read Gone With the Wind…saw the movie a long time ago so can’t even remember it that much. The longest book I read? The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett-about 1000 pages. It was pretty good. Have a good week!

We just happened to see part of GWTW during Christmas sitting on my in-laws’ couch. We didn’t even know what it was!! Haha. I kinda grew up without tv, and Kevin’s a boy. Lol. The longest movies I’ve seen are probably the LOTR movies. I don’t even know why I’ve seen them all. I kinda hated them. The Pirates movies are too long for me too. Maybe if I was at a treadmill cinema.
That pizza place looks amazing! Love the apps!!!

Ahhaha the picture of your dessert is great! Total annihilation!!
Haven’t read the book OR seen the film, I do feel like I should read a few more classics though… Hope Swanky Mum had a lovely birthday!

What a fun swanky mom bday! I like the presentation of the hummus and that artichoke sounds really delicious!
Gone with the Wind? Holy long arse book batman! No…I have not read it and I have to be honest, it is not on my list of want leads. However, I have watched it…with my mom, one of her favorite movies. So, if I ever flipped passed it I am sure I would stop to watch if only for that reason alone.
Longest book? It by Stephen King? I can’t really think of anything else right now. That was long though…and a long time ago too! I still want to see Fork over Knifes!
Fun post…cute kitty. Meow.

That pizza has my name all over it
I used to watch that movie frequently when I stayed weekends with my grandmother. It was one of her favorites and we’d just curl up on the couch together and stay up almost all night watching. I’ve never even thought to read the book.

I love Sammy’s! Especially their gluten free pizza crust. It has a really nutty flavor too it that I like.
That wine glass is super cute! Any idea where they are from? I have been shopping around for a wedding gift for a freind who is a big wine-o and thought that might be a fun thing to add in

I got the wine glasses as a Christmas gift from my cousin, Pier 1 is where they are from and came with the chalk! Thanks!
January 25, 2012 at 4:23 pm
Don’t know if you had seen my sister’s comment but she received them as a gift from Pier 1. I love them too! Such a fun idea!

The Parmesan Crusted Artichokes sound sooo good and that dessert, oh my lawd! It looks like an ooey, gooey, finger-licking delicious mess!
I tooootally had a thing for Leo when The Titanic came 0ut. My mom still swears that it’s her favorite movie. But as for long books, I think the Harry Potter series were all pretty long…but so worth it!
January 25, 2012 at 4:31 pm
Yes, agreed! Oh and Twilight! I read those books in a week. And yes, I am a nerd.

Happy B-day to Swanky Mom! We have a Sammy’s close to our house, and I really enjoy their gluten-free pizza, along with their beet and arugala salad-yum! I’ll confess to not having read Gone With the Wind either. I saw the movie a long time ago and did enjoy it, but yes, it’s long. I just saw The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo-not the longest movie I have ever seen, but up there at 2:40 . I had a fun weekend too-got to wear a long red dress and go to a fancy ball
Enjoy the rest of your week!

Pizza and hummus never fail!!
Can’t wait to watch that movie girl =)
January 25, 2012 at 7:34 pm
I’ve never read Gone with the Wind either… and honestly don’t have much of a desire to read it. It seems like something I’d have to push myself through and I can’t do that to myself when there are so many page turners that I haven’t read yet!
That dessert looks heavenly!!!
January 25, 2012 at 8:05 pm
That dessert look amazing!!
Also, I love watching Titanic. I watched it so many times that I pretty much memorize the whole movie.
January 25, 2012 at 8:32 pm
Ha! That is the same with me! Gosh, it was such a depressing movie too..must have been that love story that just reeled you in.

1-Holy dessert that after picture is to funny! 2-where can I get that wine glass with the chalk board on it?!? And I’ve never read Gone With The Wind…I’m betting I never will. I’m reading The Hunger Games right now (that’s more my style) and it’s pretty long.
January 27, 2012 at 4:20 am

January 29, 2012 at 1:58 am
I love Leo…not even past tense here!
He was and will always be my first and number one celeb crush, even if Ryan Gosling is sneaking up to the top
The food at that restaurant looks to die for.
