Dinner at McFadden’s

October 27, 2011

Hi, friends!  One more day until the weekend!  Such a great feeling!! I’ll be heading off to San Diego for my first 5K mud run!  Being right around Halloween, my friend and I decided to dress up as pigs seeing as how we’ll be all sorts of muddy once the race is over.  Pictures will be taken. Winking smile

Last night, I had the opportunity to attend a dinner hosted by the PR reps at McFadden’s at the Rio Hotel.  I recently got invited to join a group comprised of Las Vegas bloggers, writers, and editors, to name a few.  Tonight’s meet up included a delicious variety of foods provided by  McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon.

I came straight from work, so I was a few minutes late to dinner. Embarrassed smile  I sat right down to a refreshing green beer.  That’s what I’m talking about.

IMG_6338

I do have a bit of a history with green beer.  Two years ago it was my drink of choice on St. Patty’s Day.  I ended up getting it all. over. me.  My green beer drinking went much better this time around.  No spills, green hands, or green mouth.  Thumbs up!

IMG_6346

McFadden’s has a great feel to it.  Very inviting and friendly.

They provided a menu of the delicious foods we’d be tasting for the evening.  I couldn’t wait to dig in!

IMG_6340

The group started off with Sheperd’s Pie.

Slow cooked seasoned ground beef with carrots, peas, and sweet corn.  Cooked in our Chef’s beef gravy, topped with mashed potatoes and cheddar cheese.

IMG_6337

This was the first sheperd’s pie I’ve ever tried, but anything that’s topped with mashed potatoes and cheese is alright in my book.  Open-mouthed smile

IMG_6341

Next up, the servers brought around 4 different sliders to sample.

One of my favorites was the Mini Dublin

Topped with cheddar, bacon, black and tan onion rings, ranch and bbq sauce.

IMG_6342

I enjoyed the flavor combinations of the ranch and bbq together.  It’s hard to go wrong when topping a burger with a fried onion ring, i.m.o.

IMG_6347

One burger that I didn’t get to sample since I was getting way too full was the Mini Marley.  This baby looked amazing though.

Seasoned with jerk seasoning and topped with grilled pineapple and Caribbean coleslaw.

IMG_6349

I honestly could have eaten the whole plate of these amazing mac and cheese bites.  What is it with me and fried mac and cheese??  Winking smile

Beer battered, they had a crisp outside and velvety cheese center.  These were my favorite of the night.  Comfort food wrapped up in a bite!

IMG_6330

As you can see, there was no shortage of food!  They kept it coming.

IMG_6344

You know what goes great with green beer??  Chicken wings!  They had a delicious crunchy coating.  They came with three dipping sauces: garlic parm, hot ‘n’ spicy garlic, and Jamaican jerk.

IMG_6351

The Southwest Chicken Wrap had a bit of a kick from the jalapenos.  Thinking I may just have to recreate this at home.

Blackened chicken breast wrapped in a spinach tortilla with lettuce, cheddar, red onion, jalapenos, tomatoes, and chipotle mayonnaise.

IMG_6354

And can I just talk to you about the dessert!?!  Guinness Battered Deep Fried Twinkies with Guinness Chocolate Sauce.  If this is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

IMG_6358

Chewy, melt in your mouth, chocolatey goodness.  Oh yeah, it was so good I made up a word to describe it.  Winking smile

IMG_6361

The food was just amazing and I really enjoy the atmosphere!  It is a great pub for both locals and tourists!

And FYI, I will definitely be running today!  Winking smile  Thanks for reading!

Have you ever eaten any fried desserts?  Have you ever tried green beer?

*disclaimer-My dinner was provided free of charge.  My opinions are honest and my own.

Definitely going to recreate that blackened chicken wrap – but what I really want to make would be deep fried mac n cheese bites!

I had a deep fried snickers for my birthday one year – insanely delicious and I deemed it insulin worthy! :D

Mmmm – that food looks creative AND delicious! The shepherd’s pie & mac n’ cheese bites sound the best to me, though it all looks good.

I really like the trend of bars re-doing “bar food.”

Have fun at the mud run!

The sample dinner sounds delicious! I’ve never had green beer! Looks cool! What does it taste like?

It doesn’t change the flavor of the beer, in my opinion. I think they just add in food coloring..which is why I made a mess that one year I drank it! ;)

Mmm pub food. I’ve been trying to find a good Irish restaurant by my college, but have yet to track one down..dangit.

Good luck with your mud run–and be careful! I did one over the summer (called the Rebel Race), fell climbing over one of the obstacle walls, and cut my leg open. It was actually quite the injury–I needed 8 stitches! But it was super fun & the adrenaline kept me from even realizing I was hurt, haha.

WOW! That looks amazing! I had deep fried twinkies and oreos in downtown vegas, hehe. Twinkies are way better… the oreos got really soggy.

The Mud Run sounds like a blast! And I love the idea of dressing up like pigs…to cute!

The sheperd’s pie looks so good…they’re not what I would call photogenic, but those sure are!

Happy weekend! Enjoy!!!

Just yesterday I was thinking of making some for a blog post. Like you, I love anything with mashed potatoes! Have a fin weekend and great run-can’t wait to see the photos!

Here in the UK we call a shepherd’s pie a shepherd’s pie if it’s made with lamb (that’s why it’s shepherd’s I guess) but when it’s made with beef we call it a cottage pie.

It’s so funny to me that you’ve never tried one before – they’re really traditional here. Still there are loads of American foods I haven’t tried.

Someone pointed out at dinner that traditionally it’s prepared with lamb.
Thanks for stopping by!! :)

Did you admit to the McFadden people you were an RD? I think they may have asked you to leave. It all looks good, especially that Shepards Pie, I haven’t had it either.

Ha!! They do know!!
I even got asked nutrition advice while there.. It probably should be ‘don’t eat fried twinkies’ haha! :)
