Pumpkin’s My Middle Name

October 2, 2011

Well hello you beautiful readers!  I feel like Austin Powers when I say, “Pumpkin’s my middle name.”

2011-10-02_1608

Why you may ask??  I’ve been talking about this delicious food A LOT…and this post is no different.  You don’t mind though, do you??

Here are some of my other pumpkin-y posts:

my magazine debut, homemade pumpkin spice lattes, chocolate chip pumpkin bread, pumpkin chili

My weekend started by doing my first food demo.  Well, it didn’t end up being as much “demo-ing” as I was hoping, but I still think it was a success.  I dished out samples and discussed the ingredients.  It was lots of fun!

Part time, I write a monthly recipe for a health club.  It’s a fun way to share my recipes with others.  October’s recipe is for pumpkin yogurt parfait.

Pumpkin Yogurt Parfait

  • non-fat Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla)
  • pumpkin
  • honey
  • pecans
  • pumpkin pie spice
  • sprinkle of oats (for topping)

One of the members told me him and his wife have made every recipe I’ve provided and look forward to them every month.  Made my day! Smile

Later that evening, I met friends for a wine walk at Lake Las Vegas.  I got a groupon..yippee!

There were 20 different varieties of wine to try.  We wanted to pace ourselves since we knew we planned on sampling them all.

One of my favorites of the night, was a Riesling by Hooked!.

This station also provided a sample of pumpkin fudgeUh-huh, pumpkin fudge.  It’s like they knew I was coming. Smile

We met up with my parents for a bit.  They grabbed a spot lounging on the grass listening to the jazz band playing.  They had set up quite the picnic for us.

IMG_8119

While sipping our wine, we snacked on cheese, crackers, and fruit salad.  Is there anything better than cheese and wine!?!   Open-mouthed smile

All in all, it was a great night.  There were about 6 wines we didn’t get to sample since many of the booths ran out.  No worries since I would say we still had more than enough. Winking smile

I made it for a run today, but it wasn’t my best.  I think I’m doing an alcohol free weekend coming up, that’s for sure.

Hope you had a great weekend!

What is your favorite wine?  Have you ever been on a wine walk?

Riesling is my favorite type of wine, but I have yet to enjoy a wine walk (though at age 21 I haven’t yet had many chances). Your picnic picture has me craving some sharp cheddar with crackers and fruit salad now, mmm. Looks like it was a fun weekend!

What is it about wine and cheese that is so perfect?

For some reason I get a kick out of that container filled with big slices of cheese. It’s so casual :)

I’m not a wine kind of person; it always looks so elegant on TV and movies, but I’m not quite sold yet. I can drink a glass of white win now and then, but it has to be pretty sweet.

Your pumpkin parfait sounds good! And I love the feedback you got from the health club member!

I love wine and beer, and really enjoy events where there is an emphasis on socializing.

Have a great week!

Love the pumpkin parfait (you use pumpkin or pump pie filling?) and are those people in the photos your parents, don’t think so-right? Please say no.

Oh i LOVE wine. I have sampled so many different ones while travelling and living all over Europe. I have also been on a couple of wine tastings/ trails before and just love it.
There are a couple of wines I love, my favourite reds though must be a good Australian Shiraz, Pinot Noir from New Zealand and Barolo from Italy. In terms of white I definitely think that Austria has THE BEST Gruener Veltliner! and love New Zealand for Sauvignon Blanc. All this wine talk makes me think I should do a wine review soon! DO u have a favourite?

You definitely should do a wine review! I am not the best when it come to wines. I do love cabs, riesling, and shiraz. :)
Thanks for stopping by! :)

I want to go on a wine walk! That sounds amazing, now I’m going to have to go look it up haha
My favorite wine of the moment is ménage a trois- it’s a blend of zin, cab sav, and merlot and it is amazing! Only like $13-$15 a bottle too :)

its like they knew you were coming! ha. I think that looks like a fabulous time! My fav is usually cabernet but a really good one, I learned on my Napa and Sonoma trip that I really enjoy a good Petit Sirah and Zinfandel too- even Pinot Noir now. I’m so diversified/californiafied

I have a pumpkin I’m ready to roast and puree, and Greek yogurt ready to go in the frig. I hadn’t thought to use some in a parfait!

Sounds like a fun weekend, and I love your pumpkin parfait-definitely want to try that! I do like wine too, and have been tasting, but never to a “wine walk”. I had the same question as Lauren :-)

Yeah, it’s just plain pumpkin. By adding the pumpkin pie seasonings it does add a lot more flavor. :)

I love all things pumpkin too. I was going to make a baked pumpkin oatmeal dish last night for my breakfast, but realized I was out of flour.

I was so pissed when I looked back on the recipe this morning and there is no flour in it!

I’ll probably post it on Thursday, I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Love the groupon event!

I love merlot and Cab sav for reds…Chianti, too. And for whites pinto grigio or something dry and not sweet…some chardonnays.

The pumpkin fudge sounds FANTASTIC! And the comment from that couple that tries all of your recipes…doesn’t that just make your WEEK? Love those little comments to keep our line of work so rewarding :)
