Cruising

May 11, 2011

Hi friends!  I shared my recap from my time in California, but let’s get to the good stuff…my cruise!  My friend Trisha and I had the best time!

Being both our first time on a cruise, we had no idea what to expect.  We had a fabulous time, but agreed it might be more fun to go in larger group.

Our room was itty bitty.  Thankfully we didn’t spend too much time in there.

My bed!

Although we knew we didn’t have a window, we still had to check.  No bueno. Sad smile

IMG_2286

There were so many things to do on the ship, it’s unbelievable! Entertainment, trivia, karaoke, comedy…you name it!

My Cruise Favorites

The tasty Fun Ship Cruise Drink!  Holy deliciousness!

Towel Animals  (still makes me smile Open-mouthed smile)

The Entertainment

This singing duo played the best tunes, including the cupid shuffle.  Love that song!

Girl Time

We loved lounging in our robes.  Don’t we look cute! Winking smile

Food

Most the meals were set up in a buffet style.

Although they had a big variety to choose from, we were both over the food by the end of the trip.

Here are just a few of my breakfasts and lunches.

The most delicious soft serve offered all day and night.

IMG_2616

Dinner was a different story.

IMG_2565

This dinner was more formal and the menu changed daily.

IMG_2572

You have the option to choose as many appetizers, entrees, and desserts as you like.  Trisha and I ordered different options and shared.

Some of my favorites…

Fried Mozzarella with Mixed Greens

IMG_2625

Prosciutto with Melon

IMG_2577

Mozzarella and Tomato

IMG_2667

Roasted Prime Rib

IMG_2585

But nothing could top their warm melting chocolate cake.  Oh yes, you heard right.

IMG_2637

Supposedly Carnival Cruise is known for this dessert.  After one bite, I knew exactly why.  This was my favorite of the whole trip…hands down.

IMG_2599

Doesn’t hurt that it is filled with warm, melty chocolate.

Explore

We spent a lot of time exploring such a huge ship!

IMG_7767

At every turn, there were new things to check out!

IMG_2291

IMG_2292

We only got in one gym day (we did do lots of walking), but it had quite a bit to offer.

IMG_7762

We were hoping for more sunshine, but being docked on a foggy day, we didn’t get as much as planned.  Still, we soaked up the sun we had.

IMG_7749

IMG_7750

I had the best time on the ship!

IMG_7761

We both had our times of queasiness, but overall, we handled it pretty well.  The only complaint was that our age group didn’t seem to be well represented.  There were lots of older and younger crowds.  Good thing we know how to entertain ourselves…robes and all. Smile

Next post I’ll talk about our two stops on the cruise, Ensenada and Catalina.  Lots of pictures ahead!

Thanks for reading!

Have you ever been on a cruise?  If not, would you ever want to (and to where)?

I did Semester at Sea in college but the ship was a little different from yours. It looks like you had a great time. Um did you plan the matching grey stripes with your friend? Did you find you gained the weight everyone stereotypically associates with a cruise? Tell all.

I know, we couldn’t help but laugh at our stripes! Totally unplanned.
I did notice my pants were a bit more snug toward the end of the trip. Although we didn’t overdo the portions, we had dessert every night…something that we normally don’t do at home. I was happy to get back to regular eating and I am getting my butt back to the gym now that I’m home!

I’ve never gone on a cruise, but they look like fun! I dont think I would deal well with potential nausea, though! I want to know how to make towel animals!

Last year we went a cruise to celebrate Noel’s birthday. We did the Western Carribean out of New Orleans, and it was fantastic! I took anti-nausea meds the whole time, so no problems there!

We’re sailing on the Disney Dream in October!

A Disney Cruise sounds like so much fun!

Ok, had to laugh at the drinks – from the moment we got on our Carnival cruise they kept asking if we wanted a “special.” Every single day. So now, that’s what we call any pinkish/fruity rum like drink – A Special. And OMG I ate my weight in soft serve. I couldn’t stop myself. It was insane. So glad you had a great time.

Yeah, we were trying to stick with our wine we brought on the boat, but decided to go for it.
The soft serve was addicting. :)

We went for a cruise on my honeymoon – I wasn’t a big fan.

The food wasn’t the greatest and I’m not a big drinker or gambler – I didn’t find that much to do.

I would LOVE to go on a cruise that goes to Greece, Italy and Turkey – that would be amazing.

Yeah, we were glad we went, but I don’t know how eager I would be to go again. I think it would have been a bit different had we done excursions which we didn’t end up doing.
My friend is doing a cruise through Europe which sounds amazing!

We were thinking about doing a cruise with my husbands parents, their friends, and my siste-in-law+bf. It sounds like a blast but I’m thinking about getting preggo sometime soon and don’t know how much fun it would be pregnant! lol

Yeah, just imagine morning sickness on top of sea sickness. Not a good combo. :)

I’ve never been on a cruise, but my Mom has – and its always seemed like a sea of people – yours didn’t look too crowded.

Glad you had fun though!

Gahhh I am soooo nervous I am going to be sick. Did you take anything? I have a patches and dramamine lol. Looking at your pictures makes me so excited for my cruise.

You will have the best time! I took a couple of these nausea tablets I bought. I wasn’t sure if it was the rich food one night or the rocking though.
There were a few people that used the patches behind their ears. They said they worked wonders.

So pretty! I know not having a window stinks, but they’re not worth the huge jump up in cost! Like you said, you spend so little time in the room anyways. :) The food looks amazing! I remember when I went on a cruise in high school and learned that the average weight gain is a pound a day. No wonder! And I don’t recall the gym being so nice and big! I think I need to cruise again ;)

Can’t wait to hear about the stops!

I got on the scale and my weight didn’t change, but boy, do my pants feel tighter! It was worth it to me. :) Gotta get back to the gym!

It was funny when we walked into our rooms in the evening, we would always been waiting for the towel animal. It really is such a cute idea!
