Trots, Books, and Babies

November 22, 2010

Hi!  How was your weekend!  Mine was great!  So much to tell you!

Saturday

Saturday morning started super early with my 10K Turkey Trot

image

I was up at 4:15.  I wanted to give myself enough time to digest breakfast.  I had bread with pb and banana.  I think that will be my half marathon breakfast as well.  It seemed to sit pretty well.

My sister as well as my dad came to cheer me on. (excuse the no makeup..I mean how many people actually look good at 6am :) )

There was quite a good turnout.

At 6 am, boy was it cold!!  I was ready to get running!  By 6:30, we were off!

IMG_6679

You can spot me toward the left.  I was super pumped when I first got started!

IMG_6693

Coming back around…not as pumped, but still enjoying it.

IMG_6698

Overall I finished in 1 hour and 7 minutes, averaging a 10.50 minute mile.  I was pretty excited about my time!

IMG_6708

My coworker also did the race!  She finished in under an hour..go Kathryn!

IMG_6710

Snacked on a couple orange slices after the race.  Yum!

IMG_6685

I have to say that I feel much more at ease about running the half.  It is such a different feeling running an actual race versus training.

Saturday afternoon, I went to my sister’s house for book club.  This month’s read was Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris.

IMG_6715

I would highly recommend this book!  It was funny and witty!  The book is broken up into various stories, all based on the author’s life.

We had a salad bar with all kinds of yummy toppings.

IMG_6717

One of the girls brought leftover chocolate cake and cheesecake.  I had to try a slice of the chocolate and it was just as amazing as I thought it would be.

IMG_6721

My sister got the book club members each a gift!  She had my mom make this cute tote bags.

IMG_6731

They were filled with a bunch of goodies.  A paperclip book mark, pens, and a notepad.  It was such a sweet surprise.

Sunday

I woke up and did a 20 minute yoga session in my room.  It felt great to do some good stretching.  Love doing yoga in your pjs and not having to leave the house!

I got ready and headed up to my coworker’s house.  She just had her baby.

Is he not the cutest thing you have ever seen!?!

IMG_6725

I held him for a little bit.  He was just so adorable!

I had a really nice weekend and am looking forward to the short work week.

Other Swanky Scoop:

  • I wanted to share with you a clothing challenge I have been doing after reading Kendi Everyday.  It is called 30 for 30. How it works:  you choose 30 items of clothing (including shoes) and have to come up with fun and different ways to wear them for 30 days.  Also…no shopping!  So far, it has been  a lot of fun and I have gotten a lot of compliments on what I have been wearing.

How was your weekend?  What was the last book you read and did you like it?

Great job on the 10k! A race is a good way to get ready for your half!

Yay! 10K! Superstar! And I think you look as good sans make-up as with, lucky lady!

I don’t have 30 pieces of clothes, I think! Fun to imagine, though… and I can’t think of the last book I read that wasn’t for work or a cookbook. Lame, I know, but I spend all day reading so it sort of loses its thrill by the end of the day. I *am*, however, taking _Girl with a Dragon Tattoo_ to NZ with me, among others. :)

Congrats on the race! I find it strange that you guys do the Turkey Trot a week before Thanksgiving. Here in good ol’s OHIO, we do it on the day of Thanksgiving! Yep, a real turkey trot ;)

Thanks for the book recommendation. I have been reading a lot of the same books lately, romance or comedies. I would like to read a non-fiction book to spice things up a bit!

I can’t help but drool over that cheesecake. I’ve had cheesecake twice in the past 30 days, it’s my new dessert addiction!

I thought that was weird also. I actually was hoping for it to be on Thanksgiving but I only saw a 5K that day.

Awesome job on the 10k! You’ll do wonderful in the 1/2!! :) Your weekend looks like a blast, and your co-workers baby is serioulsy ADORABLE!!! Makes me want a little one!!! I wrote down that book title — I’m asking for some books for Christmas. The last book I read was Gang Leader for A Day. It was really interesting, especially since I grew up in Chicago. I learned a lot though!

Eventually I’d love to be part of a book club. A lot of the time I need motivation to read especially when i’m busy. I can’t even remember the last book I read for fun.

Way to go on the run! Orange slices are so refreshing after a long run.

I NEED that 30 for 30 in a bad way… I need to STOP shopping. ah.

Great job on the Turkey Trot! Way to get those calories out so you can take them in- that’s my favorite part of the exercise day. ;)

I love David Sedaris – have you seen his sister Amy’s cookbook? It’s hilarious. She also has a craft book out called “crafts for poor people.”

Great job on the run – that pace is awesome!!

We talked about his sister at book club. I didn’t realize I knew who she was until we googled her. She is hysterical. I will have to check out her cookbook!

Congratulations on the race! I wish I could do that, but with my shin splints and plantar fasciitis I don’t think it will every be possible.

Your co-worker’s baby is an absolute gem! So sweet and cute!

And boy, it looks chilly…how did your friend Kathryn run in that thin tank top?

Good job on the run! :-)

I have to say…my race at the end of JAN scares me, and that’s when I know I need to do it (and not lose weight in the training! …when people tell me what they eat to NOURISH and SUSTAIN them…it increases my girl power stamina)….

BEST book I am reading is called Dreaming in Technicolor….have you read it?

Congratulations on your race!

I am currently reading an Agatha Christie mystery on my phone and I am enjoying it a lot. The last two books I read were re-reads of Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion by Austen. Love them!

Even though I love Jane Austen movies, I have never actually read the books. I really should! I just love Pride and Prejudice.

Thanks for stopping by!

Oh wow! 30 for 30 sounds intense! But if I think about it, between my favorite pair of jeans, my favorite boots, legging and different tops – I probably only wear 30 items! hahaha! Maybe it should be more challenging like 100 items in 30 days! That would get me working on my closet!

Congrats on the 10k!

I am the same way in that I wear some of the same things over and over. I decided to choose pieces I don’t normally wear so it has been working out pretty well.

Yay!!! Awesome! It was so cold that morning brrrr and it’s been getting colder! At least you’ll be used to it for the half :) I am such a cold wimp. awwwww how adorable, congrats :) I’m actually reading this book about roadies, as in bike racers, and it’s hilarious. Hope we can meet up Friday!
