Celebrations

October 25, 2010

Hello hello!  How was your weekend?  I had another busy, fun filled, weekend!  There were a few reasons to celebrate.

Saturday

Workout

Let’s start with my run.  Like I had mentioned in my last post, this weekend I had an 8 mile run planned.  Well..I did it!  By no means was it easy though.  I did great on the first four miles, but on the way back, the wind was not in my favor.  It made my run super tough.  I couldn’t wait to get it done!
I did see some cute doggies on my run!  I also saw people walking with their pet parrot.  Never thought I would see that.  Only in Vegas!?!

What is the most interesting thing you have seen while running or working out?

Later on in the afternoon…

I met my friends for book club!  This month’s book was Anita Shreve’s The Last Time They Met

I thought this was a great book.  We had some really great discussion this time around also.

There was quite the spread.  I was super starving (I think from my running earlier) that I inhaled pretty much everything.

Chicken Fingers from Raising Cane’s, (which are amazing!!)IMG_6105

Party Bean Dip,

My (lazy) contribution.  Pita chips and hummus,

and homemade brownies.

Next month’s book is Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris.  It is supposedly a light, more comedic book.  I am looking forward to it since the last few books we have read have been pretty deep.

I think the run took it out of me, because I called it an early night.

Sunday

Workout

I made it to my usual body pump class.  I didn’t realize they had launched the new track.  I liked it!  I was pretty sore from my run (which was a first) so I took it a bit easy.

In the afternoon…

I attended a baby shower for my coworker and friend, Emily.  Isn’t she too cute!

The spread was amazing.  I didn’t know where to start.

I had a glass of red wine.

Here is my plate.  I got a bit of everything.  Seriously, some of the best food I have ever had.  (I also had another roll and some hummus.)

It was such a wonderful afternoon!  I am so excited for her!  Congrats Emily!

I am off to get myself ready for the week.  How come the weekends fly by so fast.  What did you do this weekend?

Congrats on the run! I only did 10K this morning, but I promised I’d do 12 next week, since I’ve weaseled out on the group twice now. :) In my defence, I made this really “logical” decision last night, after 9 days off because of illness and then catching up, to get one good workout in before the group run so the run would go better. I therefore did a circuit last night, complete with squats and lunges, with the idea that “the run is in 12 hours. That’s not enough time to feel the effects of the weights!”

Yeah, it was. :) Did you have company or were you on your own? It’s always easier with a group!

10K is still great!! I ended up running with my sister but since we run at different speeds, I ended up running myself. I wish I could find someone that matches my pace since it would make it so much easier. It was definitely difficult staying motivated.

impressive run and social gatherings. i would have needed to be left alone after all the fun and festivities. a nice meal and a nap would have suited me.
the raising cane’s goes down nicely with a ketchup/veganaise/crushed garlic mixture.

I think you made me really want to start a book club….even if ladies didn’t read the book…

And I am TOTALLY scared about those long runs. My favorite ones are 4-7 miles…13 feels furious to me…really, I am super easily bored….

But that is what feels great. When you do something new, and challenging and all encompassing.

How is your diet altered? Are you eating more protein?

You should start a book club! It is honestly such a blast!
I agree with you about the longer runs. It is hard to keep my mind occupied for so long.
I have changed my eating a bit. I try to eat more protein and definitely carbs. Saturday’s long run, I also drink a sports drink since I am pretty drained. I have been testing out different foods before my run to see what works as well.

Sounds like a fun weekend. I went to a party on Friday night and then on Saturday went to a circus, which was funny, and entirely in Portuguese.

Great run! That baby shower had amazing food!

My mom loves Anita Shreve but I have never read any of the books – did you like that one?

I had never heard of her before this book. I really liked it a lot! The girl who recommended had read another one of her books and said she also enjoyed it.

Congrats on the 8-miler! I ran my first 10-miler in August and it felt great (even though I was sore the next day)! I love running, it can be so relaxing. Also while trail running one day I saw a lady running her cat and yes the cat was on a leash! Keep up the great work and great postings!
