Cafes and Cantinas

August 1, 2010

Hi all!  How was your weekend?  I can’t believe it is already Sunday.  To make matters worse, I got confused about when my friend was coming to visit.  It is actually next week!  I am hoping this week goes by quickly.

Saturday

I went to my usual spin class.  This class doesn’t seem to give me as good as a workout as some of the other instructors, but it is a blast!  She plays such good music and likes to have us sing along.  Mine as well try to have fun while you’re working out, right!?!

Later that evening, some friends and I went to check out this new restaurant that opened, Lolita’s.

My sister’s friend won a round of drinks and appetizers for 20 people!  We were excited to check out the restaurant, but overall were pretty disappointed.

(Sorry my pics didn’t turn out great cause of the lighting.)

For my free drink, I ordered a margarita.  It was very good.

We, of course, were served chips and salsa.  I liked their bean dip.

Our only “free” appetizer for the night was a cheese quesadilla.

Since they only provided one appetizer, we decided to order a meal.  My sister, our friend, and I split the Carne Asada Burrito.  It was ok.  Definitely a big portion!

We also ordered a chicken dish which was good, but my camera must have eaten the picture. :)

Even though the food and service were just so so, I had great company!

Sunday

We have quite a group going for body pump.  Included are my sister, my aunt, my friend Daniela, and me.  It is always a lot fun!  I went early and jumped rope on my own for about 20 minutes.  Not as good as the jump rope class, (that sadly got canceled) but still got my heart beating.

After body pump, my sister and I went to our favorite, Sunrise Cafe.

I ordered from the “create your own omelette” option.  For my three options, I chose spinach, green pepper, and feta.  It was served with fruit and a whole wheat bagel.

Their portions do not disappoint.  I ate maybe 3/4 of the omelette, 1/2 the bagel, and most the banana.  It was all soo delicious!

I am going to go swimming at my parents and am having a friend come over tonight to watch a movie.  There might be some frozen yogurt involved.  Fingers crossed! :)

Other Swanky Scoop:

  • To kick off August, I am going to do another weigh in for my Bikini Bound Challenge.  Will post the results this week!

How was your weekend?  Do you have a favorite restaurant/cafe you frequent?

I’m too much of a Nabokov fan NOT to giggle at any restaurant named Lolita’s. But the food looked good!

And you’re a badass for jumproping for 20 minutes! I’d be dying of boredom after 5 minutes unless I went running through the gym with it, haha.

I love the idea of creating your own omelette. In fact I wanted to open a restaurant that was a “Create your own…” anything type of thing (ice cream, sandwich, salad, omelette) I think that would be fun! And of course served with whole grain breads, that’s so key!

Glad you had a nice weekend. Monday and Tuesday is now my weekend, so I hope to relax a bit and run tons of errands (fun stuff though, like grocery shopping!)

That’s great that you’re still jump roping even though the class got canceled.

The one arm push ups are killer! I can only do a couple on my knees. My husband can do the real deal though :)

I love Gina’s idea…create your own business idea…LOVE it, but really hard to pull off for the chef. And research shows that more than 5 choices and it makes us anxious…
Goat cheese and honey omelettes are the best

i’ve only tried spin class once, and it was HARD! probably didn’t help that i just finished an hour at the gym though :)

one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney is this pub that looks like a dive, but they sell gourmet pizzas for cheap ($15 for an individual. that’s cheap by Aussie standards.) you can get kangaroo, crocodile, duck…..not that i eat any of those things (since i don’t eat meat) but their antipasto pizza is mighty delicious. if you’re ever in Sydney you must try :)

I like that the chips look dusky brown. I like my chips coloured–blue is my definite fave. Things taste better when they’re just a little weird sometimes!

And I can’t say it’s a fave, but I always end up at Starbucks: I can work there for hours and they don’t care… and then there’s the free Wi-fi. Yay!

You were very nice about the dinner. I will never go back to that place, the service was terrible!
