Wine Weekend!

March 15, 2010

I had such a nice weekend!  I’m so excited to share it with you.

First things first.  I loved your guy’s guesses for the Creative Writer Award!  Which one is true?  # 5

1) I was originally a Communications major in college before changing to Nutrition Sciences.  FALSE.  I was originally a BUSINESS major.

2) I once partied with Paris Hilton at Pure nightclub at Caesar’s Palace. FALSE.  I did see Paris Hilton at Pure, but, of course, did not party with her.

3) I learned to speak fluent Italian while studying abroad in Italy. FALSE.  I picked up a bit here and there as well as taking Italian while in Italy, but not enough to master the language.

4) This last year, I ran in the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Marathon. FALSE.  I would love to run in this marathon one day!

5) In high school, I traveled throughout England and France. TRUE.  My high school French teacher took a group of students every year. I would love to go back now that I am older.

6) My favorite genre of movies is HORROR. FALSE.  Most of you probably know from the movies I watch, that I am a sap for ROMANCE!

7) We all know of my Twilight obsession. I am a HUGE Team Jacob fan! FALSE!!  I am so Team EDWARD!

My Saturday was pretty low key. I decided to try my hand at making granola.  Since I don’t want to overload with you too much, I will post about my granola making later on in the week. It turned out very yummy though!!

Sunday, my parents, sister, and I headed out to Pahrump, NV, about an hour west of Vegas.  We went to the Pahrump Valley Winery for lunch at Symphony’s as well as a wine tour!  It was a blast!

Lunch was super delicious!  The menu had so much!  They started us off with bread and butter which was nice and warm.  Love it!  We definitely dug in if you couldn’t tell.

I ordered a side salad with feta, tomatoes, and carrots.  The dressing on the salad was amazing!

I thought the open faced Mushroom Ravioli sounded so delicious..and it was!
Mushrooms sautéed in garlic & fresh cilantro, topped with blue cheese crumbles, diced roma tomato & beurre blanc.

We all ordered a variety of dishes.  Everyone was very pleased with their choices.

My mom mentioned to the waiter that it was my birthday this week!  She let us choose a desert.  The Lava Cake called my name.  OH MY GOSH!  It was divine!  I love chocolate.

The decor inside the winery was very neat. They had a wall of all the awards they had won.  Pahrump Valley Winery has been awarded over 40 national wine awards since 2006!

My sister and I goofed off a bit…

It was a smaller winery ,but so neat!  As I had mentioned before, I have never been to a winery so it was a cool experience.

They store their wine in white oak barrels.  They buy barrels from all over including France.  A different barrel will provide a different flavor to the wine.

At this winery, they grow Zinfandel and Syrah, mostly due to the weather.  They get the other grapes from California and Oregon.

A bit bald at the moment.  The owner said the vines will get buds within the next week.  Because of the heat, they do not cut the vines back, so to provide more shade for the grapes.

After the tour, we tasted a few wines and strolled the gift shop.  We picked up a few bottles!

It was such a nice Sunday!  I know some of you have mentioned going to wineries before.  What is your favorite winery?  What winery would you love to go to?

Thanks for the award; I wrote a post about it called the ‘The Truth Game’. Can you guess which one is the truthful one? :-)
Your weekend sounds like a lot of fun! I haven’t been to many wineries and definitely don’t have a favourite as yet. I would love to go to Hunter valley in Australia one day. I can see myself very clearly doing some wine tasting over there. :-)

Yum on the mushroom ravioli. I’m such a goof, I had the creative writing thing backwards (someone else did all truths and 1 lie).

I would love to get out to wine country…

I’ve never been to a winery but I would love to visit wine country. My fiance and I were actually planning a destination wedding there and then changed the location to the Caribbean! I love your lies and your truth!

Awesome weekend indeed! :-) I love touring wineries – it’s such a complex field with so much to learn about, and the scenery is always gorgeous! My favorite is Blackstone here in the Georgia mountains.

I can’t wait to hear about your granola! :-)

Very cool. I always wanted to make it out there and we never did. Therefore, I am glad I got to see a little bit through your pics. Looks like it was fun.

We have a winery here and I have been twice. We also did a week in the Napa area, and it was amazing. I would go back. I am hoping to get to Italy soon and visit some wineries there.

I love wine tasting. Looks & sounds like you had a great time!

I love exploring small wineries in Sonoma (but we haven’t been in a while as it’s not the best activity to do with a toddler…). Can’t wait to go again!

Lava cake … *drool* Looks like you had fun! :) I’ve been to Rubicon and Sterling in Napa Valley – both are gorgeous, and of course, their wines are good, too :)

Wow, I’m impressed that you traveled so much in high school – what a great experience!
