Night on the Town

January 13, 2010

Happy Hump Day!  Were half way through the week.  I had a friend in town from Chicago so we had to do a bit of the Vegas thing while he was here.  We started the night with dinner at Dick’s Last Resort.  I had never eat there before but the restaurant seemed fun when I checked it out online.

So the whole idea behind this restaurant is kind of crazy.  They make the customers where silly hats that say pretty inappropriate things.  Not really a place for kids.   The website says,  “Famous for its deliciously messy cuisine, zany décor, rowdy wait staff, live bands and let-loose atmosphere.”  It was a pretty good time.

IMG_2313 The menu was basically your typical bar food.  They did have a “kinda’ healthy” section, which is where I planned on choosing from.  I didn’t make the best choice with my drink, but when in Rome…so I ordered a Hefeweisen.  This is one of my favorite beers.  I definitely didn’t think it would be so large and in a souvenir cup.  I felt like such a tourist.

The menu didn’t give much detail on what was in the foods so I thought I would take a shot with the Chopped Salad.  I ordered it with balsamic vinaigrette.  As you can see, the salad was filled with lots of good stuff.  There was black beans, turkey, ham, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, and some tortilla strips.

IMG_2318 It was pretty good.  I ate about 3/4 of the salad and I felt pretty full.  After dinner we walked over to New York, New York and checked out their Piano Bar.  This is always a fun place and if anyone wants to go out on the strip, this is always a good time.

I ended up drinking more than I planned.  I had two more beers, Blue Moons.  My favorite!!

This morning I took my friend to the airport and knew I had enough time for my sculpt class.  I went and ran an errand, came back and changed, and got to my class at 1045.  When I got there, the class had already started…I totally forgot the class started at 10:30.  Does this ever happen to you?  I went to a yoga class last week at 10:45 so I think that is where I got confused.

So I hit the treadmill for 30 minutes.  Now, I don’t know about you but when I don’t have music, it makes it much harder for me to run.  I watched some of the Today Show and You’ve Got Mail, trying to read their lips.  I checked the schedule, and there is a Bootcamp class later on which I might try out.

Since I always seem to come across the issue of what healthy drinks to choose when going out, I thought I would write about it.

Here are some healthier drink options:

  • Sour Apple Martini- Made with 2 1/2 oz. sour mix and 3/4 oz. each vodka and sour apple liqueur, this drink is 160-calories and all yum.

  • Vodka and Diet-Lime Soda (Sprite Zero or Diet Sierra Mist)-  Simple and under 100 calories

  • Mudslide- Although sounding decadent, this drink made up of Vodka, Kahlua Coffee Liquer, Bailey’s Irish Cream, and cream is around 184 calories.

  • Gin and Tonic- 1 ounce gin and 3 ounces tonic is only 103 calories. Delish!

I will definitely be trying out these drinks the next time I got out.  Although I try to eat healthy and exercise, t
hose high drinks and beers can really ruin it for ya.

Have a great day!  I’m off to do some laundry and get ready for the rest of my week.

Are there any go to drinks you choose when going out?

Oh I’ll take the sour apple martini! Yum. I’m a beer girl though, and I don’t mean the light crap, I’m talking the good wheat or pale ales!

The restaurant sounds interesting. I wish we had unique restaurants like that here in C-bus, but we don’t really.

I know what you mean about treadmill running with no music. It’s no fun. Glad you had the today show, and a good movie!

I’m a beer or wine girl, but I’ll enjoy a dirty martini or vodka gimlet once in awhile!

We’re staying at NY-NY in April — glad to know there’s a piano bar there! Sounds like a fun time!

great drink suggestions!! I’m so sick of vodka and soda water! But sometimes I’ll get one with fruit juice, hard cider or just wine. But Clink bar of the Liberty Hotel in Boston has a whole line of cocktails for <150 calories. And I believe they give some complimentary tastings on Fridays, from 5-6.

That is great that you have a place that offers low cal options! It’s so easy to just choose the drinks that sound good and forget about the calories.

I’m a wine girl but sometimes I’m in the mood for a dirty martini or I’ll have vodka + water with a twist of lime! That sour apple martini looks yummy :)

I always wanted to try Dick’s Last resort, but it was always packed and we never got around to braving the tourists. My fave drink when out is a malibu bay breeze. Tastes just like juice.

haha I’ve been there and yep that place is funny! I can’t help but laugh at those hats the servers make. We’ve never eaten there though, just had a drink. I used to love gin and tonic until I had an unfortunate series of events with it & I haven’t had one since! I’m a big fan of wine, but we all know that isn’t very light either.

I bet you could get the same result with a regular pan on the stir fry. The wok made it really easy to work with, but if you stay on top of the mixing you could do it in any pan. I did veggies first and then pushed them to the side, added the scrambled eggs in the cleared area and after they were mostly cooked I mixed everything up so this way it didn’t end up like a total omelette. Then added the noodles, just keep tossing it around. I am sure you could recreate the lo mein at home.

Grey Goose and soda water with a lemon and a lime wedge. So good.

Another really good tasting drink is amaretto and diet coke. It’s really sweet :)

A lot of places don’t always have diet lime soda which sucks because then I’d always get vodka and diet lime soda!

Hey Kristen!!

Thank you so much for your sweet comments and for stopping by my blog. I can’t wait to read more of yours!

I love getting inpsired by “newer” RDs…I love my job, but it is always a little less exciting when you’ve been doing something for 10 years. Working with students and newer RDs really helps me to remember how much I love my profession!

My go-to drink is red wine…almost always.

Have a great weekend!

My go-to drink definitely depends on my mood. I’m a big fan of the ever-popular vodka-cranberry (esp w/ grey goose). :)
