Hi Everyone! This weekend was definitely the weekend of birthdays. My sister’s birthday was on Friday and my friend Whitney’s birthday is this Sunday. Happy Birthday Ladies!
Friday night I went to my sister’s and my parents picked us up food from Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza (picture to follow). Although my pizza was good, It was a bit burnt. They had actually screwed up the order pretty bad. When my parents went to pick up the pizza, they asked if they had ordered it well done. Does anyone ever ask for pizza well done? That is definitely something I had never heard of. On to my Saturday…
Since dietitians can be criticized for what they eat, I thought I would let you into a typical day of what I eat as a dietitian. I definitely believe the key to healthy eating is everything in moderation. The foods I eat on the weekend are definitely very different from what I eat during the week. I will normally eat out at least once on the weekend and will usually enjoy a drink.
This morning I started the day with a bowl of Kashi Go Lean cereal with nonfat milk and a sliced banana.

I did some shopping this afternoon. While I was out, I grabbed one of my favorite drinks..an iced pomegranite blueberry tea latte. If you haven’t tried this drink, I highly recommend it.

For lunch, I had the leftover vegetarian pizza from Sammy’s. Burnt or not, I always eat my leftovers. It honestly did taste pretty good.

Since I had dinner plans for my friend’s birthday tonight, I wanted to have a little something to hold me over. I bought this container of mixed fruit on sale and dug into that. (Sorry this picture came out a bit blurry)

We went to this really neat tapas restaurant called Firefly. Here is a pic of me, Whitney (the birthday girl), and Daniella.

Although we had reservations, we still had to wait about 30 minutes. We were all really hungry and ready to eat. The atmosphere in the restaurant is really neat. Our window faced out to the Fremont Street Experince. I tried taking pictures but the I kept getting a reflection. I definitely need to pull out the camera manual. Once seated, we order a pitcher of their Sangria. It is the tastiest sangria ever.

For my entree, I ordered two tapas. The first dish was the veggie empanada filled with spinach, mushroom, artichoke, herbed cream cheese. It was sooo good.

I also ordered the warm spinach salad with artichoke, red pepper, pine nuts, and feta. The picture doesn’t do it justice. It was a very simple, yet delicious dish.

I also nibbled on a plate of crackers they had brought out. I thought the plate had hummus with it so I dipped my cracker in it. I didn’t realize that it was some sort of herb butter. Not what I was expecting.
So as you can see, I don’t always eat the perfect meals all the time but I do feel it is important to also enjoy the food you eat. I really am enjoying sharing a little bit of my life with you guys. I hope you are enjoying the blog so far. Hopefully my pictures and posts will only get better!
Hope you’re having a nice weekend! Anyone have a birthday coming up?

Ah, so jealous. 2 of my fave places to eat. I love sammy’s and if you haven’t had the babaganoush there you must. As for firefly, that’s another one of my faves. One year all the Sunrise Hospital dietitians and our interns went there at once, it was a very large party. My 2 faves there are the mac and cheese and the shrimp skewers. Looks like you had a good weekend.
That is nice you mentioned my birthday. I am suprised because it wasn’t that exciting but this post was very nice. I do wish they would have got the order right. Thank you for my birthday present!! Listening to a little Jack Johnson this am!!
